The changing trends in higher education in India are defined by its online education system. In the olden time the basic requirements for mankind were shelter, food & clothing. But after the industrial revolution education has also become imperative for survival. Education industry holds the topmost place because it is solely responsible for the growth & developments of other sectors of the Indian economy. Our world is becoming a global-village due the eradication of the socio cultural barriers & “globalization” of the world’s economy. The manufacturing, infrastructure, service, communication & other fast growing sectors at rapid pace are changing India to knowledge economy resulting in rising demand for dynamic, vibrant, efficient & qualified workers. This has switched the focus of education from pure knowledge to applied sciences & sciences to engineering & technology. India’s youth today are more target-oriented, well versed & focused with upcoming requirements & accordingly opts for the kind of education & knowledge which is unbiased for gender, demand-driven & job-oriented. Keeping in mind the relevance of this changing education trend, various technical, non-technical, non-conventional courses are introduced in educational institutions, engineering colleges & polytechnics in India. As Indian students are getting exposed towards the myriad educational options, development of new trends in this field is constantly changing the conventional education system. It is seen that online education is now emerging as a preferred mode of education in India because regular education is becoming highly competitive & very expensive these days. There are huge options & opportunities for e learners in our country. Online education in India is complementing the correspondence & distance education scenario which is quite successful. The major reason behind changing trends in the Indian education sector is the “cost of education.” Cost of online education is comparatively quite cheap & highly affordable while cost of regular education is constantly rising. The one and only requirement of online education is a computer system and internet facilities. Online education is completely changing the methods of imparting education by providing practical orientation and making education a great fun. Online education is a stronger mode of education as it facilitates global exposure to students.
