To those that doubt the importance of the method behind writing headlines, consider this: what are those bold words which greet you with your morning coffee and stay on your mind all day? When you are scrolling through a list of articles, what compels you to click on a particular link? When you pick up a magazine, what makes you want to open it? Certainly, one cannot underscore the importance of a great headline - it acts as the first impression to potential readers. Make that first impression count with these six practical tips for writing headlines that draw in your readers. 6 Ways to Effectively Write Headlines That Get Emails Opened There are many theories out there in cyberspace about exactly what you need to write to get a potential consumer to open your email and be exposed (and hopefully) purchase your products and/or services. However, what works and what does not? This is a major question because we all know that if you intend to make money online, it is through list building and effective email marketing. Therefore, this little thing like an email headline is of major concern to the overall success of your commercial campaign. The following are tried and true ways to draft your email marketing campaign's headline that ensures the greatest possibility of success that it is opened and not just deleted or worse, spammed.1. Make an Outline of the Article Of course, seeing as a headline cannot exist without an article, the first place to start is to conceptualize the article and jot down the major points you would like to cover. Once you have your outline, you will get a feel of what your piece should represent, which is basically what your headline will summarize in a few striking and bold words. 2. Create a Summary This element of writing headlines is always a bit tricky because it's important to write an overview but at the same time is concise. The headline has to offer your readers the gist of what your article is about and say it in an interesting way in order to attract browsers and turn them into readers. 3. Writing Headlines Based on your Type of Story Before you have written your headline, have a look at what others are using to see what kind of headlines match particular types of articles. For example, when writing headlines for a formal medical study, the structure of the headline would be different than that of a food blog. 4. Choose the Voice You Will Use When writing headlines, one must determine the tone of the article and ensure that the tone of the headline matches. If not, then you may have some confused - or worse, offended - readers. 5. Make Use of Subheadings Pursuant to the point made previously, headlines should be as concise as possible. Unfortunately, sometimes you cannot avoid a wordy headline. Luckily, cutting up the headline into one main headline and a sub-headline with lines or colons lets you grab the attention of your readers with two effective headlines for just one article. Studies routinely show that headlines, bullet points and/or any other way to display information in a very clear and concise fashion has the effect of subconscious power to the reader and actually stays in the reader's long-term memory much easier than when the information is delivered in more conventional fashions. 6. >Always Close Out with Intrigue Stirring up curiosity with your headline is really the bread and butter of writing headlines. By using a few intriguing words, readers will be enticed to keep reading. Therefore, a little bit of intrigue is what makes writing headlines fun. In addition, people by their very nature are very interested in mystery and intrigue getting your title to be more memorable and make the consumer or reader want to find out what it is about. This is the most important of the rules and adds the most success to an email opening by reading a title during a campaign.
