We all love to compete in some aspects in our lives. It is natural for us to strive and excel on our endeavors regardless of its nature. But it is in playing sports where all of this competition is visible. All of us have our own preference when it comes to playing sports. Some of us love to play subtle but mind boggling games such as chess and scrabble. However there are people who prefer more extreme sports that require strength, agility and endurance. Such sports include basketball, volleyball and football. But there is one particular sport that combines mind and body capabilities, the game called dodgeball. For some, they may think that this game is only played by children, but it is actually played by a lot of professional adults. There are even specific sporting establishments that cater specifically this sport such as the Bundoora Indoor Sports Centre. Since a lot of people are already playing this game, they have decided to make a professional league, namely the Melbourne Dodgeball League. Unlike other sports, playing dodgeball does not require much equipment. Unlike football or road racing which requires full body armors, helmets, gloves and special shoes which are quite expensive. In dodgeball, you only need to wear a comfortable athletic dress and rubber shoes. You can also wear kneepads or wrist bands if you opt to. You also need not worry because most gyms nowadays have already wall and floor pads to prevent injuries while playing. Playing this game is a great way to lose some weight because it lets you move your whole body. Unlike working out in the gym wherein you get bored at sometime because there is no social interaction, but in dodgeball it is a different story. You get to meet new people especially if they are recruiting for a new team member. To spice things up, there are a lot of variations to this sport, one famous type is called “Dr. Dodgeball”. Each team chooses their own leader which has the ability to revive members if they are hit by the ball. If a player was hit, he will just lie or sit down and wait for their “doctor” to revive him. This makes the leaders prone to an attack, that’s why some team prefers to discreetly select one. However some teams declare a phony doctor as a tactic against the opposing team. The game ends very rapidly if the doctor is taken out of the game.
