National Air and Space Museum The National Air and Space Museum is one of the favorite family attractions in D.C., specifically because of the many interactive exhibits, historic air and space crafts, and IMAX theater. For the best day to visit, try the Air and Space Museum’s Family Days. There are family days every once in a while, and the admission is free. Most often, these family days will include hands-on activities, the ability to meet an astronaut, and the ability to learn directly about space from the experts of NASA. These days are directed towards families and children and are a great opportunity to visit the Air and Space Museum for the first time. There’s also story time for children, and a special planetarium show for children. After, be sure to work through the “I Spy” activity throughout the museum for a way to entertain them through learning. National Museum of Natural History The National Museum of Natural History is a wonderful place for children and families and is a favorite of the Smithsonian museums. With many wonderful dinosaur skeletons, the beautiful Hope Diamond, and numerous mummies, there’s so much for families and for children to appreciate. One of the best places in the Natural History Museum is the Discovery Room. This room is full of hands-on discoveries, like the skin of a crocodile, the jaws and teeth of different animals, and the ability to try on clothes from around the globe. There is also a wonderful exhibit called “The Last American Dinosaurs: Discovering a Lost World,” which is a must-see for children and families.
