76. Feng Shui and Your Creative Potential
September 07, 2013

Everyone has more than one way to use their home to further enhance their creative potential. Every floor plan will have areas that are inherently conducive to creativity and each person will have their own personal directions to access as well. When we evaluate a house according to Xuan Kong Flying Star School, it reveals which areas of your home that can enhance the creative muse or attract luck in creative professions. Typically, these areas of your home are good for you if your medium is art, music, writing, or acting. But this same creative energy can extend to other professions and... (read more)

77. Which Came First: Feng Shui or the I-Ching
September 07, 2013

You may be familiar with the practice of Feng Shui and some of the symbolism associated with the eight Trigrams. Each “trigram” is associated with a part of the body, colors, an element, a family member, and a direction. These trigrams are each symbolized with three lines. The word “trigram” means “three lines.” The lines can be broken or solid and in a certain order to depict the unique trigram and direction. For instance, the Qian Trigram is three solid lines stacked on top of each other and associated with the direction of Northwest (post-heaven sequence) and the father in the famil... (read more)

78. Feng Shui and the Grand Duke
September 07, 2013

The term “Grand Duke” refers to a negative type of energy which comes to certain directions and it can make an area of a building or property accident-prone. It is volatile energy, the Chinese term for it being “Tai Sui.” It sounds like “tie sway.” There are sayings about how you don’t want to turn your back to the Grand Duke; like an enemy it could smack you in the back of the head if you turn your back directly to it. This direction is associated with the Chinese Zodiac sign for each year. And each Chinese zodiac sign is related to a direction. For example, the year 2011 is the Year... (read more)

79. Feng Shui and the Sui Po Directions
September 06, 2013

The Sui Po Direction changes from year to year and it is always a direction which opposes the direction known as the Tai Sui direction for the year. For example, in 2011, the Year of the Rabbit is associated with east. And the direction that opposes east is west. That means that in 2011, the Sui Po direction is west, the Rooster sector. What does this mean in relation to Feng Shui? It means that the Rooster direction of west in 2011 is a very accident-prone direction. The whole range of west is from 247.5 to 292.5 degrees. The middle section of that is the Rooster Sector from 262.5-2... (read more)

80. What Is a Feng Shui Case Study?
September 06, 2013

As with many subjects and disciplines, a case study is an opportunity to observe or apply the theories relevant to the given discipline and note how those theories manifest or respond in a real life situation. The same is true with Feng Shui, an ancient discipline that has been used and documented for several thousand years. A Case Study will demonstrate what is both typical and predictable about a circumstance, as well as what might be an exception to the rule or a unique interpretation for it. An example of a Feng Shui Case Study is a house type that I have been tracking for two de... (read more)

81. CHINESE ASTROLOGY - WEALTH LUCK
September 05, 2013

When you look at some people you know, they seem to have uncanny ability to amass wealth without putting in much effort. Could it be that luck plays a part in their life? Well, one of the ways of finding the secret to their windfall or Midas touch when it comes to money is to peek into their birth chart. In Chinese Astrology, a person is born with Four Pillars of Destiny that govern human life and aspirations such as health, wealth, career, relationships, etc. The other name for this ancient art is Ba Zi or Eight Characters. By knowing the birth date of an individual, we can construct th... (read more)

82. Feng Shui Interprets Attics and Basements
September 05, 2013

It should be understood that the areas of a house that a person spends the most time in are the areas to focus on. Usually, no other room competes with the bedroom(s) or the heavily used home office. And yet, we can take apart a whole floor plan and interpret the effects of other areas of the house as well. A poorly placed bathroom or kitchen could affect the whole family. Some of the energies in a house are invisible, but powerful, and were created when the house was built. Energies from the earth move upwards as the foundation is being established. Energies from the sun and stars pen... (read more)

83. What Is a Feng Shui Update?
September 05, 2013

There are several different major schools of Feng Shui. And the schools which take timing into consideration can reveal a lot more information about how the house or building can affect its occupants and when. Feng Shui is a predictive art, so we can corroborate all the influences and also project when certain circumstances or events will be most likely to occur. This includes annual cycles. For example, in Xuan Kong Flying Star School we can see if a house is prone to causing a certain illness for the occupant. When will the illness strike? It is very likely that when compounding an... 84. Date of Occupancy Versus Date of Construction in Feng Shui Theory
September 05, 2013

Most Xuan Kong Flying Star Schools teach that you can evaluate a house based on its compass orientation in conjunction with the year of Construction. The house then takes on a “Flying Star” chart and is associated with having been built in a certain Period. These different Period are twenty years in length. For example, a house built between 1944-1963 is a Period 5 house. The house is then remedied according to the energies it assumed at the time it was built. I have found this to be very predictably accurate and I have a fair amount of experience evaluating properties according to when... (read more)

85. Exotic Trinkets Not Necessary as Feng Shui Remedies
September 05, 2013

Sometimes my clients look at me with pleasant surprise and relief when I tell them that they can get their Feng Shui remedies at a local garden center or home décor store. Some have already been assuming that they will need to make a trip to Chinatown or go on line to look for exotic trinkets to satisfy their Feng Shui needs. This is never necessary. Ordinary items can be used and in fact, the more inconspicuous the remedies, the better. The range of possible remedies is vast, depending on what the design flaw or problem is. We can break down the types of Feng Shui problems into s... (read more)

86. Feng Shui And Complementary Divination Arts
September 05, 2013

Many people are now familiar with at least the concept that Feng Shui is the study of how we are influenced by our natural and man-made environment. There are also complementary fields in Chinese metaphysics which borrow from each other in terms of how we organize the information and interpret it. For example, in Chinese Face Reading, we can look at the face like a map, where the chin represents North and the forehead South. Like a floor plan, your right cheek area would be associated with East and your left check would be West. In Feng Shui theory, each direction is associated with cer... (read more)

87. Are You Living The Life That You Want To Live?
September 03, 2013

This is a call, a challenge, a plea if you will…….for all of us to step back periodically from the hectic pace of life to reflect on the life we are living. Ask yourself right now: • What is it that truly matters most to me? • What provides me with a sense of meaning and happiness? • What do I want or need? • What are the thoughts or beliefs that are getting in the way of me living the life I really want? Take a moment. Even though the kids are asking for help with their homework, or the looming work deadline is causing a mad flood of all the things you still need to do to race through y... 88. Dodging a Bullet With a Feng Shui Technique
September 02, 2013

Classical Xuan Kong Feng Shui can be very accurate as a predictive art. When we factor in the time of construction and the magnetic compass reading of the property, unseen influences can be revealed and this includes events or circumstances which an occupant may encounter. For example, there is a certain type of energy that can exist in someone’s house which would predict a surgery. The flying star school then offers one or more remedies to avert this potential. It could involve an element remedy for the room in question and/or using the room less so that you simply won’t be as influence... (read more)

89. Do Electronic Items Count as Feng Shui Remedies?
September 02, 2013

In the New Age version of Feng Shui, there is a belief that electronics can liven up a room and stimulate chi (aka qi or energy) in a positive way. This is actually one of the more peculiar notions to come out of the New Age spin-off versions of this ancient practice, where electronic devices were certainly not used or written about as remedies for unbalanced spaces (hundreds or thousands of years ago.) This is not to say that modern items of décor or invention can’t qualify as legitimate balancing agents in a room. For example, one of the most wonderful modern inventions, available to ... 90. When Architecture Contradicts Yin-Yang Theory
September 02, 2013

It’s certainly gratifying when architectural designs complement good Feng Shui principles. But sadly, this is not always manifested and it can contribute to imbalances in the occupants’ lives. Every house has a sitting side and a facing side. The facing side is considered the front of the property, even if it is not the architectural front by conventional standards. The sitting side is the term used to indicate the back of the house or apartment. As one example, you could have an apartment with a door on one side, but the major views and large windows to the opposite side of the unit. U... (read more)

91. Teaching Feng Shui Backwards
August 31, 2013

There are different types of teachers and with different agendas. But many teachers sincerely want to have their students learn something practical right away. We also want students to learn how to make a change to their personal space that will work fast. Some of this is intended to help “sell” Feng Shui. We want our students to believe that Feng Shui really works, so we might try to give them something powerful right off the bat. It is actually hard to dispense anything more than general information to a classroom full of people who each have unique properties and unique circumstances th... (read more)

92. Radical Remodeling and Changing Feng Shui Energy
August 31, 2013

As the BP oil spill continued to poison and pollute on an unprecedented level, many comparisons were made to the economic and environmental toll taken in relation to Hurricane Katrina in 2005. That in turn made me think about a client of mine who rebuilt her home after Hurricane Katrina filled her house almost two-thirds up from the floor to ceiling with water. This was a unique case study for me. The walls and flooring had to be replaced, and yet the roof and ceiling remained intact with this particular house. Technically, a house’s internal Construction Era energies do not escape or b... (read more)

93. Feng Shui's Credibility and Classification as a Predictive Art
August 31, 2013

As a professional in the predictive arts, I had to tune in when a popular TV show recently aired an episode on whether or not psychics are frauds or for real. With relatively little in-depth investigation into the phenomenon of psychic ability, the show’s producers took the safe stance that most psychics are either frauds or just overly confident eccentrics with delusions about their abilities. This particular show contained its subjects to psychic mediums (who talk to the dead), a palm reader, some space clearers, and a Tarot card reader. While I happen to personally feel that most psyc... 94. Feng Shui Practitioners Who Apparently Don't Believe in Feng Shui
August 31, 2013

The title of this article will certainly surprise many and stir up some controversy and resentment. But I need a few minutes of your time to explain this conclusion that I have come to. Based on their actions, their books, their websites, and their direct comments to me, I have been completely mystified as to why a whole major segment of the Feng Shui consultant population has no desire to actually practice or even familiarize them selves with traditional Feng Shui! My conclusion comes after nearly two decades of observing this very peculiar mind-set of select practitioners. You would th... (read more)

95. Feng Shui in the Trilogy of Healing Modalities
August 31, 2013

While Feng Shui is the art and science of how we are affected by the built environment and the natural environment, it is also a part of a trilogy of ancient healing modalities. The other two parts to this healing trilogy are Chinese Astrology and Chinese Medicine. Each one of these three disciplines contains powerful wisdom and guidance in how we can live our lives in a more balanced, focused, and productive way. Chinese Medicine can tell us what our constitutional health is like and how we can work with our inherent weaknesses, compensating with herbs, food, and acupuncture or other h... (read more)

96. Sorting Through the Different Schools of Feng Shui
August 31, 2013

Just in the last twenty years or so, potential Feng Shui students have come across schools which identify themselves as “Traditional” or “Classical” versus some other schools, such as “western Feng Shui” or other clever descriptions. And some of these misnomers make it appear that if you are not studying the “modernized” versions of Feng Shui that somehow you will be lacking in the ability to discern and apply these ancient teachings in a modern context. Nothing could be further from the truth, so long as the consultant has had ample training in the traditional methodology. And that i... (read more)

97. Feng Shui and Wind Chimes
August 30, 2013

Aside from being a nice garden accessory, wind chimes have been used as actual Feng Shui remedies for a variety of reasons. And there is also one circumstance where they should absolutely NOT be used. As a moving metal remedy, wind chimes or bell strands can disperse negative energy when it is of a specific earth “sha.” The term “sha” can translate as harmful energy. In the cycle of the five elements, earth wants to nurture or become metal, so the metal chime can absorb the negative earth energy or transform it. I am not referring to Planet Earth when I note “earth” but rather a less li... (read more)

98. Feng Shui and Tiny Houses
August 29, 2013

If you haven’t heard the term “Tiny House” you can correctly assume that it describes a very small house, but there is a movement now to build and live in tiny houses by people who don’t necessarily need to. Many just want to live in a tiny house, for environmental reasons and even for spiritual reasons, to reduce one’s carbon foot print and to live without so many material trappings. In a web search for Tiny Houses you will see some houses that look like little Hobbit cottages, mini-mansions, wood sheds, and just about any architectural style in miniature form. Some Tiny Houses are buil... (read more)

99. Organic Feng Shui In A Synthetic World
August 29, 2013

This is the first time I have paired the word “organic” with my area of expertise, but I’m having a realization about the way in which the modern day Feng Shui practitioner approaches their assessments and applications. In classical Xuan Kong Flying Star schools, understanding and use of Five-Element Theory is crucial. The Five Elements, sometimes referred to as the Five Phases or Transformations (because they are in state of relative flux and not stagnant), are categorized initially as Water, Wood, Fire, Earth, and Metal. These Elements can manifest in a number of ways and they can ... (read more)
