Identifying the “Abuse” Drug and alcohol abuse is really not that hard to identify. People generally involved with substance abuse display bipolar behaviour and tend to be extreme with the display of emotions. Insecurity, schizophrenic behaviour, insolence, and denial of their problem are the common characteristics of a substance abuser. The said person will often display lapses’ of concentration and will trail off into their own realm. Substance abuse generally refers to overdose and consumption of substances, beyond limits that allow human body and mind to function properly. The Mental and Behavioural Hazard As mentioned earlier one of the first aspects that get affected by substance abuse, is the human mind and soul. Irate and irrational behaviour, coupled with bipolar and extreme behaviour, are the symptoms displayed by substance abusers. What overdose of drug and alcohol does is create dependency of the human mind on the; virtual environment created by release of dopamine, upon the consumption of the substance. The substance, whether alcohol or drug does is ; that it gets you high, a state or a frame of mind, where you feel better or more secure and feel your responsibilities shed themselves. The dopamine released in your brain by the consumption of these substances gets your mind addicted to this escalate stated of “no worries”. Where your brain is in a trance and you feel as if nothing is wrong in your life. Jolts back to sobriety, are a hard trip and are a result of rash, insolent and insecure behaviour as the said person obviously wants to the perpetual state of bliss. This is the main reason attributed to the schizophrenic behaviour exhibited by addicts. Your body is being decimated Depending on the cognitive behaviour and personality of the addict, the eating, sleeping and other bodily functions and habits change. For instance some indulge in binge eating, whereas some go all Buddha and start starving themselves. One leads to obesity whereas the other causes your body to degrade. The change in eating and drinking habits, along with substance usage, affects your liver, lungs, kidneys and heart. Making you more prone to diseases and cancers. It weakens your immune system. Moreover it shows all over your body, as tissues and cells degrade and you start to look like a blast from the past. Hello douchebag, yeah you scumbag! The above title is exactly how society will treat you and look at you, if you are an addict. Abusers become alienated and people get pushed away. There is an extent to the tolerance and patience that people have. No matter what your relationship is, the common behaviour attributed with substance abuse, will lead to your relationships suffering. Society will not look upon you in good way either. You will either be a figure of disgust and scorn or the object of pity. Knight in Shining Armour Not all suffers have kith and kin looking out for them. Some people need a knight in shining armour.
