Area 51 facts have been the source of controversy since the 1940's. From being an training base for the United States Air force, to becoming a top secret research facility seemingly overnight, there's no wonder why people are convinced that the US government is hiding something. The Roswell UFO and alien discovery incident in 1947 set off a world wide hysteria, full of panic, mystery and wonder. The area 51 facts revolving around UFO and alien sightings has become a product of everyday life over the decades. Over half of the United States alone see rumors as facts about Area 51. Over half of the United States believe that Area 51 is indeed hiding something, but no one in the general population knows for sure what that might be. The first known use of area 51 was in 1941. It was a training center for the west coast air corps. Known as Indian springs airfield, auxiliary number 1. Of course, this was 6 years before the Roswell UFO incident. The most famous alleged alien crash in history. Or as the official story goes, it was "A US Air force Surveillance balloon" Up until 1990, the military still published reports claiming it was merely the crashed "Project Mogul Balloon". Even after several claims of extraterrestrial bodies having been discovered that July day in 1947. There have been few employees from the military compound who have come forward about alien and UFO activity at the base. This has made Area 51 conspiracies and conspiracy theorist more credible over the last few decades. What was known as rumors once upon a time have turned into fact. It wasn't until the 1990's, nearly 50 years after the UFO crash landing in the Nevada desert, that the CIA finally admitted the existence of the infamous top secret fortress. Needless to say, the general public was not surprised. The Area 51 military is on patrol twenty-four hours a day all year around. Constant security sweeps, motion detectors and security cameras are not in short supply around Nellis Air Force Base. The personnel guarding the base are authorized to use deadly force if someone wanders into their territory. That is, if they refuses to leave, provokes the officers, or tries to harm them in any way. There have even been at least a dozen cover ups surrounding missing US citizens disappearing near the compound. A list of facts about area 51 is incredibly short to say the least. Thousands of reported sightings of suspicious aircraft in the desert are reported, and reviewed by the US Government every year since 1952. Experts claim that indeed, 90% of Area 51 UFO sightings can be debunked and written off as anomalies such as space debris, satellites and manned aircraft commonly used in the airspace. However, there's still an astounding 10% of observers that were from highly credible sources. Colonels, majors and other high ranking officers claim to have seen with out a doubt, a true unidentified flying object in the area around the desert compound. The even higher up secret military officers cannot properly account for these types of sightings. At least, they just cannot seem to stick with the same story when asked on multiple occasions. In 2013, George Washington University, after several repeated freedom of information requests, finally achieved their goal of having the United States Central Intelligence Agency reveal some facts and truths about the secret base known as Area 51. Just a few months later, president Obama mentioned in an interview on live television, the existence of the secret base next to Nellis Air Force base. It was more or less known as an off-hand comment, and had to reassure the public that he was only making a joke at the expense of Area 51 facts. However, the public did not think that it was very humorous. His comment did open the door for law suits and additional freedom of information requests from the public later on. In 2012, a twelve man team of British conspiracy theorists infiltrated the entrance of Area 51 with a BBC film crew. Their goal was to obtain Area 51 facts. Facts about Area 51 are classified, and the 12 man team was held at gun point until the Military personnel got finished uncovering their identities and their credentials. Washington D.C also sent a heavily armed Apache helicopter just in case the team was hostile. Eventually, the civilians were in fact escorted off the property and needless to say, they did not try that again. With a film crew on hand, the military guards did not produce any hostility. No one knows what might have happened if there was no film crew recording that day. One day, we may find out just what secrets lie within the fortified compound.
