Liver cancer occurs when a tumor forms in the liver. It can be bifurcated into two parts, primary and secondary. The liver might get affected by primary cancer when malignant growth creates in the liver or has developed in some different part of the body and then gradually spread to the liver. A secondary kind of malignant growth is the most widely recognized sort that occurs. When a tumor cell is developed in other parts of the body and then spread to the liver is known as secondary/metastatic. Cancer can be Benign or Malignant. Symptoms of Liver Cancer Weight loss Itching on the body parts pain or swelling upper right side of the abdomen Swelling in the legs Jaundice In the higher stages, patients might also suffer from fever, vomiting sensation, and tiredness. Increase in the size of the spleen person might suffer from pain in the left side of the abdomen. Liver Cancer Stages Stage 1: The tumor develops only in the liver cells and does not invade different parts body. Stage 2: The single tumor in the liver gets in the blood vessel or more than one tumor of lesser than 5 centimeters in size. Stage 3: 3A-There more than one tumor cell with at least one of the tumors having a size of more than 5 centimeters. In this, the tumor growth is limited to the liver, 3B-In this tumor spreads to one of the main blood vessels in the liver but does not affect the lymph nodes or the other body parts, 3C -The tumor cells spread to the surrounding organs or at least one of the tumors grows outside the lining of the liver. In this stage, the cells do not spread to organs at a distant location or to the lymph nodes. Stage 4: 4A-There is no specific size of the cancer spread in the lymph nodes in the surrounding. It does not spread to the organs located at a greater distance. In 4B- The tumor spreads to the organs like the lungs, brain, etc. Types of Liver Cancer There are different types of liver cancer. The most common types are hepatocellular carcinoma. The hepatocyte is the one that develops within the liver cell. Hepatocellular Carcinoma The condition where a tumor develops in the Hepatocellular cell known as the important cell of the liver is called hepatocellular carcinoma. It contributes to about 75% of overall diagnosed cancer. Issues like cirrhosis, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C lead to hepatocellular carcinoma, known as hepatoma. Fibrolamellar Hepatocellular Carcinoma is a rarely occurring type. Most commonly observed in girls or boys who are at their pubescent. Cholangiocarcinoma The tube that carries bile juice to the gall bladder gets affected by this type of cancer. Cancer that affects the bile ducts inside the liver is known as Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma, the tumor that grows in the bile duct located outside the liver is known as HilarCholangiocarcinoma, and the condition in which the cells develop in the bile duct that is near to the small intestine is known as Distal Cholangiocarcinoma Angiosarcoma It is a condition where the cells develop in the blood vessels of the liver and spread rapidly. What are the various Liver cancer treatments available? There are various treatment options available for curing liver cancer. Appropriate treatment is selected depending on the damage of the liver due to cancer or any other reasons. And also the percentage of the infection that has spread and affected various parts of the body. The option available is: Interventional Radiology It is a process performed by targeting the infected cells using minimally invasive technology without affecting any surrounding healthy tissues. Chemotherapy It is a procedure performed on the patient before or after the surgery to destroy or reduce the size of the tumor. Radiation Therapy It is a procedure where high doses of radiation are used directly on the cancerous cells. Immunotherapy It is a procedure performed on the immune system so that the body can fight cancerous cells. Target Therapy It is a procedure the drugs consist of a specific protein new to cancer cells. Transplantation is a procedure where the organ gets replaced by surgery. There are two types of Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation (DDLT): This is where the donor is dead, and the other is Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT).
