Tonsillectomy in Bangalore

Tonsillectomy is a very common medical procedure performed worldwide. It's also one of the oldest surgical treatments for throat infections. Experienced doctors like Dr. Athira Ramakrishnan perform a tonsillectomy on patients with throat infections, tonsillar hypertrophy and malignant tonsils. Patients generally have their tonsils removed as a preventative measure against future health problems. Alternatively, doctors perform tonsillectomy in cases of chronic throat infections. Recovery time depends on the patient and the procedure's extent.

Many people choose to have the surgery performed at home instead of in a hospital. Patients undergo general anaesthesia during their surgery at home. Doctors will typically provide their patients with pain medications, post-operative instructions and food for recovery. Patients also need to drink plenty of fluids and avoid eating heavy foods after their surgery. This helps them recover faster and reduces the risk of postoperative complications. Typically, patients return to normal activities within six weeks after their surgery.

Complications of Tonsillar Enlargement

Tonsils may become larger in response to repeated or prolonged infections, or they can be born that way. The following conditions may be helped by removing the tonsils surgically:
Abnormal breathing difficulty
Lack of sleep due to respiratory problems (obstructive sleep apnea)
Tonsil disorders and illnesses of different kinds.
Tonsil removal is sometimes done to address less common illnesses and disorders of the tonsils, like:
Malignant (cancerous) tissue in either tonsil or reason to suspect cancer
Tonsil surface blood vessel bruising and bleeding
Acute halitosis caused by food particles stuck in the tonsillar crypts.

Understanding the Procedure of Tonsillectomy

A tonsillectomy is done by removing both sides of your tonsils- your lymphoid organs in your neck area. The reason for this is to treat an infection or disease in your throat area. The operation is generally performed under general anaesthesia, so you will be unconscious during it. The doctor will make an incision in your mouth and suction out both sides of your tonsils using a device called a tricotel tube or Buchner system. Your doctor will also remove excess tissue from your palatine canal using an instrument known as a tragalig manoeuvre (TL). After this, your doctor will remove the affected parts of your lymph nodes using negative pressure suction or electrocauterization (ES).

How to Prepare for Tonsillectomy?

The hospital will provide you with specific instructions on how to get ready for the tonsillectomy. You should expect to be asked for the following types of information:
A list of all prescription and nonprescription medicines and supplements.
A history of severe responses to anaesthetics, either personally or in one's family.
A history of bleeding issues in either you or your family.
Unfavourable responses to common drugs, including antibiotics.
The following will be included in the preparatory instructions:
Several days before surgery, your doctor may advise you to change the dose or stop using certain drugs.
Never eat after midnight the night before surgery. What you should eat and drink before coming into the hospital will be specified by your surgeon.
Plan to get a ride back to your place of residence.
The preparation period should be at least ten days, preferably two weeks. Adults may require more time than kids do.

Contact Dr. Athira Ramakrishnan for the Best Tonsillectomy in Bangalore

A tonsillectomy is one of the most popular surgeries worldwide due to its simplicity and effectiveness in treating throat infections and other chronic conditions. Recovery time depends on factors such as the extent of the surgery and general health before the operation. People with active mouth cancers generally have more complications from having their tonsils removed than others. Generally speaking, Tonsillectomy in Bangalore is done by expert ENT specialists like Dr Athira Ramakrishnan and is highly recommended for both safety and speed of relief considerations.
