Silencers are very useful tools. They can muffle the sound of a shotgun and make it a lot easier for you to use your firearm. In spite of its rather sinister reputation, a silencer can often simply be used in one’s backyard when one is unwinding by firing off a few rounds at a dummy target. If you don’t want to disturb your neighbors with all the noise then a silencer can be the perfect tool for you to use. However, there is a major problem here: silencers cost money. This is no reason to worry, though, as you can make silencers at home. These homemade silencers, also sometimes called backyard silencers as this is where they are often used as well as do it yourself silencers and throw away silencers, are rather easy to make and can provide a simple solution to all your silencing needs. In order to understand how to make a backyard silencer work you must first understand how silencers work in general. All silencers are composed of three parts. The first part rapidly dissipates heat from the bullet. The second part uses rubber discs to slow the bullet down, thereby decreasing its sound. And the final part of the silencer, the most complicated part of the device, uses a series of soft plastic chambers to decrease the amount of air that is expelled with the bullet. The result is a shot that is, for the most part, silent. It can only be heard by someone that is right beside you. You can create the body of the silencer using a PVC pipe. For the rest of the silencer you will need rubber discs, plastic rods or soft wood washers, along with a variety of other items such as steel plugs and stabilizer donuts. It’s plain to see that creating a do it yourself silencer is not something that requires heavy duty materials. These are things that you can get at your local hardware store, things that you do not need any kind of permit to get whatsoever. Creating the silencer is also a very easy task. The construction of a homemade silencer simply requires some basic knowledge of do it yourself work ethic. If you are not a do it yourself kind of person there are several tutorials on the internet that can help you to create your very own homemade silencer. One thing that you should keep in mind, however, is that creating a throw away silencer is a big responsibility. You absolutely cannot use such silencers in public as it is against the law. Use them in the safety of your own home while using your guns for your own personal enjoyment and there should be no problem whatsoever. Additionally, keep in mind that guns are a huge responsibility, and that your homemade silencers should be used in such a way that absolutely no harm befalls anyone around you. Keeping guns safe requires everyone to do their part. I am in no way advising you to make a silencer yourself, it is illegal to have a homemade silencer on your gun. If you truly want a silencer then you need to get it the right way, buy a legal silencer, apply for your tax stamp and wait until you are approved to own it. It's fun to think about how to make one a home though! If you want to chat about them you can come over to Bluegrass Hobbies and drop me a line.
