A Home Owner's Guide For Shower Care

1.) Scrape

It's really easy to forget that underneath all of the dirt, soap scum, and grime that builds up on your shower is a perfectly good surface. Every time that you or a member of your family uses the shower, it's going to get dirty.

This doesn't mean that you need to clean it every day, but it does mean that you should clean it as often as necessary to keep your shower looking nice. One of the easiest ways to keep your shower looking nice is to use a squeegee on the glass doors and walls after every shower.

A squeegee doesn't take any time at all to use, and the hard water stains that do develop can be easily removed with a bit of vinegar. If you don't have a squeegee, you can use a dry cloth or towel to wipe down the doors and walls after every shower.

2.) Spray

Every time that you turn on your shower, it's going to fill up with everything that is in the air around it. Things like dust, dirt, pollen, mold spores, all of these things get into your shower if you don't clean it regularly.

It would be impossible to remove all of these things, but what you can do is make sure that your shower is as clean as possible every time that you use it. To do this, spray a light mist of alcohol or bleach into the air for a couple seconds before starting your shower. Once the spray settles, you can turn on the shower and use it as you normally would.

The bleach or alcohol will prevent as many mold spores as possible from growing in your shower, as well as kill other germs that may have gotten into the water. In order to keep mold from developing on the walls of your shower, consider making a bottle of bleach spray and keep it in a convenient location.

3.) Maintain

While taking care of your shower is not difficult, you do need to remain vigilant about keeping it clean. If you let the dirt and grime build up for too long, then it will require more effort to clean than what can be saved by cleaning it less often.

Keeping your shower clean also means keeping the rest of your bathroom clean. If you keep your floors and countertops clear, then it's easier to clean up dirty footprints after each shower.

Think of it as a preventative measure for when you or other members of your family track dirt into the house on their feet rather than leaving it there for later.

4.) Shine

Your shower is like the rest of your bathroom - it should be sparkling, but not too shiny. Shiny showers look nice and professional, however they are often very slippery for anyone or anything that touches them.

To prevent slipping in your shower, make sure that you clean regularly and apply a fresh coat of polish every six months to a year. In between polish jobs, you should consider using a shower mat that is placed at the entrance of your shower. This will catch any dirt or other debris that your family members or guests may track into the house on their feet.

Finally, make sure that you clean your glass doors and walls with vinegar. Vinegar is perfect for removing hard water stains, soap scum, dirt, and other grime that has built up over time.

A home owner's guide to shower care doesn't just mean cleaning it. It means taking care of your shower so that cleaning it takes very little effort. You just have to stay on top of things.
