Construction safety is a priority that cannot be ignored. It’s an important consideration to communities and construction companies alike. Construction sites inherently pose a lot of risks to workers and anyone checking in on the progress of such construction sites. Construction companies that properly train and prepare their employees for construction site mishaps will be more equipped to deal with the variables that they may come across. Construction companies should have procedures and precautions set in place to train their employees to deal with every conceivable problem that may occur. These occurrences are their responsibilities. Of course, not every accident can be held against the construction companies. Accidents happen. Only negligence should be punished. Construction companies need to be aware of the local and national laws of their industry. A statistic that has to be taken into consideration is that the construction industry has one of the highest fatality rates of any occupation in the world. Construction workers must know these risks and should be compensated for the risk that they put themselves at. Working as a construction worker is one of the highest risk professions in the world. Fatalities in the construction industry are down in recent years due to stricter rules and tighter regulations. Construction workers build a lot more than most give them credit for. Not only are they responsible for the construction of buildings that we use every once in a while such as hospitals or hotels, but also our houses, corporate workplaces and roads. They build highways and on-ramps. They build the essential things that keep our economy going that we never think about. They build the things that we don’t think twice about. The good news is that construction site safety seems to be improving, however, with a lot of unique industries, there tends to be a lack of cooperation with standard operating procedures via regulating bodies such as OSHA. Companies such as these have been able to skirt the law for quite some time now but thanks to the internet and more awareness about these issues, these industries are being held accountable. These industries are not inherently evil by any means, but the incentive for profit has hurt these particular companies and they need to get back to healthy non-greedy business practices. Regardless of the situation, companies in this industry are behaving better and are seeing the international benefits of doing the right thing. Safety is important in all types of construction zones. Workers must follow the law while they are working in construction zones as to avoid injury. In road construction zones people need to be especially careful as to not come in contact with construction workers. These construction workers are making our roads a safer place and must be respected. But all too often these workers are taken for granted and get injured because of negligence or drivers not paying attention. Chemicals, heights and other various dangers can put construction workers at risk. Safety equipment must always be used by workers. Workers must be aware of occupational hazards and authorities must do their best to inform them of these hazards.
