“Good humor is a tonic for mind and body. It is the best antidote for anxiety and depression. It is a business asset. It attracts and keeps friends. It lightens human burdens. It is the direct route to serenity and contentment.” ~ Grenville Kleiser Having a great sense of humor is a huge factor in succeeding in life! Successful people are able to find humor in everything and use it tastefully. Apply these Four C’s to experience more successful outcomes across various life areas, both personal and professional. 1. Connect with Others. Humor is an AMAZING communication tactic. Humor allows us to connect with people and brings people closer. People are going to want to be around you and get to know you when you are funny. For those people that already know you, they often need humor to feel connected as well. Humor is often used and very effective because it connects people on an emotional level. The reality is that most of the time people need humor to take a mental break. What people? Young people, old people, white collared workers, blue collared workers, strangers in line at the local grocery store, your spouse, your kids, your kid’s dolls - because we know they have feelings too and need a laugh! Who doesn’t need humor? 2. Celebrate Your Own Imperfections. When humor is self-directed in a loving way it enables us to celebrate our own flaws and imperfections. Self-directed humor can be one of the most powerful tools used to support self-worth. It says, I’m authentic, I’m real, I’m human and even with these flaws I am worthy of love and acceptance. Imperfection is worthy of celebration. 3. Care for the Mind and Body. Many clinical research studies have found that humor has a positive effect on health and perceptions of wellness which helps us cope. You may have heard the saying that goes, “Laughter is the Best Medicine”. Laughter triggers healthy physiological changes within the body. It can protect you from the harmful effects of stress. Find humor in everything because it is good for your physical and mental health. 4. Conduct Business as Usual. Let’s face it. The bills have to be paid, the kids have to be bathed, work objectives and opportunities must be pursued. In addition to our daily activities, there may be major life challenges may have to be faced. Sometimes we experience circumstances that may seem less advantageous or inconvenient. Conducting business as usual sometimes includes these realities. But life MUST go on. So we find humor to keep going in the midst of it all. It can keep us grounded and focused while inspiring a sense of hope. Keep smiling! Keep laughing! Keep Succeeding!
