The Art of Travel: Get Creative in these Dream Destinations

Insurance
The monotonous routine of office work and household chores can sometimes bog you down, but there’s a creative solution to escape it all. Art-based holidays are becoming a popular trend these days. They are the perfect way to visit a new place and learn some artistic skills as well. Besides just experiencing a country’s unique cuisine and historic sights, trying your hand at the local painting forms will help you see a new dimension of its heritage. If you’re wondering where to go on such a holiday, these are destinations which you shouldn’t miss.

East Kimberley, Australia

The Kimberley region in Western Australia comprises of an age-old landscape that spans hundreds of thousands of square kilometres. It houses a colossal central plateau of dissected sandstone ranges and an expansive limestone one, which was created from an ancient barrier reef. Idris Murphy, top Australian landscape painter, heads a ten-day artistic excursion in the area, helping you sharpen your creative skills.

During the getaway, participants will discover the glory of the natural landscape by both driving through the area and drawing and painting directly from nature. Murphy will help you learn by offering expert guidance, art demonstrations and informal discussions. This excursion also allows for partners who do not paint, so you can happily bring a loved one along.

Rajasthan, India

The capital city of Rajasthan is a haven for art lovers. Known as the Pink City, Jaipur is home to a number of talented artisans. While you are there, immerse yourself in its interesting cultural history. Maybe, even try creating a miniature painting, a format unique to Rajasthan that can be traced back to the period spanning from the second century BC to the fifth century AD.

While miniature paintings were first done on palm leaves, they were later created on paper. The Rajasthan school of miniature painting started in the sixteenth century and was widely popular until the nineteenth century, which was known as the Mughal Empire’s Golden Era of Indian Art. Traditionally, the themes depict the lives of the royals and the common man.

Another impressive tradition to see first-hand is the art of wood block printing. An image is engraved into a block of wood to create a stamp. This stamp is then coated with ink and pressed onto cloth to create stunning designs that are handmade and timeless. In fact, this is still used in the fashion industry today. Dabu printing is another printing process used to colour fabrics. It uses natural dyes and vegetable pastes, making it a form of sustainable textile design.

Before You Go

It is imperative to invest in comprehensive travel insurance so you’re protected in the case of an unforeseen event. It’s also a good idea to read about the region’s art history so you’re well-prepared to make the most of your holiday. Don’t forget to pack clothing which is suitable for the artistic adventures you’ll embark on.

Often, it seems intimidating to visit exotic locations because of the risks involved, but this should not deter you – with some comprehensive travel insurance, you have nothing to worry about. An arty holiday is the best way to step out of your comfort zone to discover your passion for creativity once again… so what are you waiting for?
