Depending on the chosen floor finish and the site conditions, it can be normal to notice a variety of inconsistencies that may concern some consumers. Industry and Australian standards allow for minor imperfections within or suspended within the coating system. These include, machine marks, dust particles, putty depressions, minor swirl marks, roller, brush or lap marks, minor gloss variations, hair, possible insects including flies, ants and other foreign matter that are attracted to and may settle on the floor prior to or during the drying time. In conclusion, when floor polishing northern beaches, it is vital to make all necessary precautions to minimize the risk of problems occurring. The main problem we as contractors face when refinishing a floor is the containment of the areas of timber flooring we are working on. To prevent people and animals trafficking on a freshly sanded or polished floor it is most important to notify all inhabitants and neighbors to keep out of the home we are working on during the time it takes to complete the work, this includes adequate drying times. After the successful completion of your floors and initial curing of finishes has taken place, you will be allowed to occupy the home again. It is most important that during this time you treat your floor very gently as full curing will not take place for up to 2 months depending on the finishes used. At no time should any furniture or appliance be dragged or rolled over the floors as this will most certainly result in both scratches and dents that can only be removed when re-sanded. When moving or replacing furniture you must pick up and place the item in the correct position and then leave it there. Chair legs and other house hold furnishings can scratch and wear your floors, make sure you cover them with felt protectors to prevent this. Place walk-off mats inside and outside of entry points such as doorways. If possible remove your shoes, in particular high heel shoes. Clean up spills and cooking fats immediately using a damp cloth. DO NOT wash your floor with household cleaning products even if they say “for wooden floors” on the label. Do not wax your floor as these chemicals prevent us from recoating your floors in the future. Most importantly for any floor or coating system, we recommend you recoat the floor within 5-7 years to reduce the need to fully sand and refinish your timber floors.
