Once again, Buzzfeed has sucked me into another one of their entertaining articles. This time it was about different red flags that people came across from their previous jobs. There were plenty of stories, but I will only share two today. The first story was about a person who worked as a salesperson for a vacuum company. The first sales call he made was to an elderly woman. She had no interest in buying a vacuum, plus she was trying to support her son who was in the hospital. Despite her declining, the supervisor took over the call and pushed the sale on the woman to the point where she broke into tears. Right when the woman was about to sign the papers, the salesperson asked if she really wanted the vacuum, to which she replied she couldn’t afford it. Soon after, the salesperson walked away and quit the job. The second story was about a recent college graduate who took a door-to-door cable salesperson job. Their target customers? Older people (Starting to see a pattern here...). On the first day of the job, she was shadowing an experienced salesperson and she watched him make a sale to an older man who had memory issues. And you bet she left that job immediately. Now don’t think for a second that sleazy people like them don’t exist on the Internet. There are indeed a lot more of them than you think. Here’s a brief profile of what they’re typically like: 1. They’re in the Make Money Online niche (i.e. Affiliate marketing, dropshipping, social media marketing agency, Kindle publishing, and the list goes on). 2. They claim to have retired at a young age, or claim to be millionaires but they look like they’re fresh out of college. 3. They claim to have made an insane amount of money in just X number of months. 4. They say you can have the same results by using one of the business models I listed above. They also like to emphasize that their business model is “simple” so they attract the people who are just looking for quick and easy money, and they fall for it. But what they fail to realize is that even though it’s simple, it still takes a lot of time and patience, just like building your email marketing system. Building a quality list will take time. Mastering the email copywriting skill will take time. Building a lasting relationship with your list will take time. Seeing sales results will take time.
