With it being the capital of such a diverse and multi-faced Britain, it is no surprise that London is a melting pot of different religions. Even a single trip to one of the many holiday apartments in London will reveal the different cultures and ethnic groups that London can offer. Whilst a majority of 60% of Londoners identify as Christians, the rest is a mixture of faiths. Surprisingly, just behind Christian is 16% of those who state that they have no religion, Muslims come third at 8.5%, Hindus at 4%, Jews at 2%, Sikhs at 1.5%, Buddhists at 0.8% and other at 0.5%. Because of the strong Christian presence within the city, it is no surprise therefore that there are a lot of churches in the city such as St Paul’s Cathedral, Southwark Cathedral. Royal and national ceremonies are usually held at both Westminster Abbey and St Pauls, but there us also a separate Westminster Cathedral, which is actually the biggest Roman Catholic cathedral in the whole of England and Wales. Even though there are a lot of Anglican churches, there is little Anglican denomination with church attendances still on the decline in recent years, according to statistics. There are various other religious communities in the capital. Many Muslims live in Newham and Tower Hamlets, with London Central Mosque overlooking Regent’s Park. However in recent years after the oil boom, many rich middle-eastern Muslims can now be found residing in Mayfair and Knightsbridge. The Hindu community can be found in the north-west in Harrow and Brent, with the latter harbouring one of the largest Hundu temples in Europe, the Neasden Temple. Sikhs are more prevalent in East and West boroughs lf London, whilst the majority of Jewish communities in Golders Green, Stamford Hill, Hendon, Stanmore and Edgware. Canons Park Synagogue has the largest Orthodox membership of any synagogue in Europe. Since 2006, the community founded a London Jewish forum. To experience the various faces of London, many landlords offer a short let London for you to have a worry-free stay. You don’t need to be religious to appreciate the various faiths that make up the community that is the folk of London.
