251. The Reason Why Small Is the New Big
May 12, 2020
It's a pain dealing with big businesses, don't you agree?
You're forced to work with their company bureaucracy. It takes forever to bypass the automated phone menu and the hold time to reach a human being through customer service lines. And when you do reach a person, it's someone from overseas that only knows how to repeat what they memorized from a script. Or if you're on chat support, you get replies that make you question if the person you're messaging is even a person.
It's terrible. It's frustrating.
But hey! On the bright side, they make good stories to share with your fr... (read more)

252. How to Build a Crisis Response Landing Page
May 12, 2020
The Importance of Updating Your Website for COVID-19 Whether you’re hosting a webinar, giving away a special report, selling a program, or presenting a video series, a landing page inspires your visitors to participate in some way. Creating a crisis response landing page is a bit different because you’re not trying to convert leads into sales—you’re trying to communicate serious messaging to your customers. Why should you put up a separate crisis-related page? Your visitors are looking for reassurance and resources, whether it’s around health precautions you’re taking to prevent... (read more)

253. The Power of Red Velvet Ropes
May 11, 2020
Personally, I've never been to a nightclub. I don't really thrive in that type of environment. But I know enough that they almost always have the glorious VIP section. That isolated area closed off by the Hollywood red velvet rope and guarded by scary-looking bouncers who can end your life with one punch. The area where people get the absolute best treatment in the club.
No waiting in line.
Special service.
Better seats.
When you see these VIPs having the times of their lives, it makes you think, "Man, I want to be a part of that." You kinda get the same feeling when you se... (read more)

254. The Best Way to Waste Your Business Cards
May 10, 2020
I went to a networking event a little while ago with my friend. And a woman approached us, said hi and immediately gave us her business card. She didn't even ask for our names.
Has that ever happened to you?
What a terrible mistake that person made, and what a waste of business cards. When people do that to me, it makes me think that they don't care to learn about me or my business.
They're just interested in making a quick sale.
And that's a big mistake I see people make when it comes to emailing new subscribers. They go straight into the pitch. Desperate to make a sale. B... (read more)

255. The Biggest Mistake This Skincare Company Made With Their Products
May 10, 2020
During my dark teen ages, I had a terrible acne problem.
In hopes to get rid of it, my mom decided to buy an acne treatment regimen for me from a certain skincare company.
When my package arrived, I was excited! I thought this was going to be the golden ticket to restoring my baby-butt smooth face. I looked at the pamphlet that came with the package. It laid out how to use the regimen and it said something along the lines of this, "Your skin will clear up after 30 days of using the regimen."
"Ok, I thought, "I can endure this acne problem for another month."
Fast forward 30... (read more)

256. The Bottom Feeders of the Dating World
May 10, 2020
Online dating apps have completely changed the dating game. You're able to meet people you never would've met otherwise. And there are so many people available to you.
That's the good news.
The bad news is, there are so many people available to you.
Let me explain why.
First, if you're not familiar with the online dating world, here's how it works.
Being that men are men, they like almost every single attractive woman they see.
For women, because there are so many men liking their profiles and they have to be very picky for reasons I'm sure you can figure out, the... (read more)

257. Subtle ways to Get Potential Customers Committed to You
May 09, 2020
Let's talk psychology.
I recently listened to an interview where someone was talking about his terrible experience in Dan Lok's High Ticket Closer Program. After listening to him, it just sounded like he didn't put in the effort to get results he wanted and refused to take responsibility.
Long story short, he wasted $26,000, but that's not the point.
The person shared something that I found really interesting.
At the end of the seven week High Ticket Closer Program, Dan congratulated his students and said, "Before I let you go, let me ask you. Am I just your sifu for seven ... (read more)

258. Never Judge a Book By Its Cover, But People Still Do
May 09, 2020
Going back to my 2016 internship at the startup nonprofit. One of the things I learned from working with the Executive Director was the importance of attention to detail. Whenever he interviewed candidates, he would always tell them (and I'm paraphrasing), "...If you have these tiny mistakes on your resume, your prospective employer will think you don't pay enough attention to detail and you're not right for the job. And then what happens? Your resume's in the garbage." Unfortunately, that's human reality. We meet someone, form a first impression within the first seven seconds, and th... (read more)

259. Shutting Down an Insurance Agent
May 08, 2020
One day I logged into my LinkedIn account and I got a connection request from a random person. His name was Will. He seemed like a good guy and then I saw his title.... "Partner at New York Life Insurance Company." At that moment, I knew exactly why he wanted to connect with me. So I decided to play along and have a little fun. He started our conversation off with this: "Ellisen, I’m looking to build my network, and came across your profile. I’m a Partner at NY Life and I have opportunities available with a fast track to Management. We have a few common connections, and I t... (read more)

260. A Fun Night With My Friends Teaches You How to Make Your Business Stand Out
May 07, 2020
One of the quarantine traditions my friends and I started was every night, or most nights, we'd get on a video call and play games together. We'd either play Monopoly Deal Coronavirus Edition or Survivio, which is a type of shooting game that looks like it's designed for kids. But that's besides the point. There was this specific moment (that I don't remember well enough for it to make sense to you) we were on a call and throwing banters at each other. And one of my friends said something to my other friend that made her reply, "I'm unique, ok?" I found it very ironic when she said t... (read more)

261. How I Got Into the Habit of Flossing
May 07, 2020
I'm going to be honest with you. My parents never taught me the importance of flossing. So growing up I thought just brushing my teeth twice a day and not stuffing my face with candy were good enough to keep my teeth healthy. I thought I had nothing to worry about until what happened months ago. It was June of 2019, I was at my dentist's office getting my regular cleaning. After the hygienist finished cleaning my teeth, I thought that was the end of my visit. Suddenly, another worker came into the room and she started talking to the hygienist. The conversation was abnormally lo... (read more)

262. A Laughable Moment That Teaches You How Not to Take Self-responsibility
May 06, 2020
Here's another story from the pre-quarantine age. I was hanging out in my school's club suite, which is the part of the building where all the school clubrooms are. People were still in class so the area wasn’t as crowded and chaotic like it usually was. While I was on my laptop doing some work, I overheard a conversation between two women, if I remember correctly. Like many college students love to do, they were complaining about their college professors. And I remember this one specific line one of them said which was... ”My professor can’t teach.
