401. This is How You Don't Wiggle Your Way Out of a Speeding Ticket
September 15, 2020

Once in a while, I like to go to an entertaining website called fmylife.com. It’s where people can anonymously submit short stories of unfortunate events that happened in their lives. Some more disastrous than others. For example, here’s a story I found pretty funny. ---------- Today, I got pulled over for speeding. Knowing how much more it would cost in the long run, I handed the officer my license with $300 in cash, "as something to consider for just a warning." He came back with a ticket and verbally warned me that police bribery is a felony. He kept the money. FML ... (read more)

402. A Clever Blackhat Resume Tactic
September 14, 2020

Apparently, there’s a new way employers review resumes of new candidates that I was never aware of until now. What they do is they feed the resumes through a scanner to look for certain keywords. If they’re there, then the candidates will be granted an interview. I never liked the idea of a machine taking over a human job. It’s not called “Human” Resources for no reason. So one day, one of my friends taught me something to trick the scanners into qualifying you for an interview even if you’re not qualified at all. Basically what you do is insert the necessary keywords on your re... (read more)

403. Education and Pirated DVDs
September 11, 2020

I recently finished reading a book called, How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia by Mohsin Hamid. It’s about the journey of a boy, named “the protagonist” or “you,” from his childhood to his deathbed. He was raised in a village by his mother and father, both of whom died relatively early on in his life. This caused him to pursue entrepreneurship and built his own successful bottled water business. At some point in his life, he met a woman simply named “the pretty girl.” When they first met each other, the pretty girl asked the protagonist if he knew anything about movies. W... (read more)

404. My Personal Definition of Happiness
September 10, 2020

Last night, I was on a voice call with three of my friends. Somehow our conversations transitioned from videogames to asking each other deep questions. One of the questions we asked each other was, “What is your definition of happiness?” When it was my turn, I thought for a few moments and said, “Any good moment you experience that makes you temporarily forget about everything else happening in your life.” And I truly believe that statement. Speaking from personal experience, whether I’m doing anything like spending time with family and friends, working on my hobb... (read more)

405. October 2020: New Facebook Content Standards
September 10, 2020

How Will Changes to Facebook’s Terms of Service Affect Your Business? To say that 2020 has been a year of changes would be an understatement! While we never know what the future will bring, one thing I can say for certain is that social media will continue to change and evolve. And it seems like not a week goes by that there isn’t a social media update! It’s enough to frustrate even the seasoned marketer. One of the new Facebook guidelines in 2020 was FB5, otherwise known as the "New Facebook." I’m sure you’ve noticed this change, which has altered the look and feel of the p... (read more)

406. Crown Lengthening Procedure using Dental Diode Laser
September 09, 2020

Introduction- Crown lengthening is a surgical procedure designed to increase the extent of supra-gingival tooth structure for esthetic and restorative purposes. Based on the clinical scenario, crown lengthening procedure is categorized as either esthetic or functional. Esthetic crown lengthening is usually done in the anterior esthetic zone of oral cavity, where the major concern is to reduce excessive gingival display and increase the clinical crown height. While functional crown lengthening is done to expose the crown structure so that a functional prosthesis can be placed over the exposed c... (read more)

407. My Two Cents on Conversion Rates
September 03, 2020

Once in a while, I get asked this question. Not too often, but enough for me to feel the need to address it. “What are your conversion rates?” I assume people ask for one of two reasons. They either want to know if my copywriting skills are good, or they want to see if I can produce the same results for that person. To me, the first reason is valid. But the latter, not so much. The biggest reason being there are just way too many factors that affect conversion rates. Some of which are: Your market Your relationship with your audience The size of your ema... (read more)

408. Management of Pericoronitis using Dental Diode Laser
September 02, 2020

Introduction- The operculum is a soft tissue covering the crown of a partially erupted tooth. This area is difficult to access, and hence the normal oral hygiene methods remain ineffective, leading to inflammation of the soft tissue. This inflammation of the soft tissue surrounding the crown of a partially erupted tooth is called pericoronitis. It is known to appear when the third molars start to erupt, and are most commonly seen with the partially erupted/impacted mandibular third molars. Pericoronitis is treated by extraction of the third molar or by performing operculectomy. Operculectomy i... (read more)

409. My Relationship With Alcohol
September 02, 2020

Alcohol is not really my type of drink for a couple of reasons. The main reason being that I have quite a low tolerance for it. I remember a couple of years ago, I was hanging out at my friend’s house. We went out to buy some drinks and went back to his house to watch a movie. I drank half a tall can of some fruity flavored beer. Soon after, we went outside for a walk, but something didn’t feel right. I felt out of balance, I had a hard time keeping my head straight as I was walking. Yep, I got tipsy just from drinking that much. The taste is no better either. The only kin... (read more)

410. The Story of McDonald's Health Halo
September 01, 2020

This is part two of yesterday’s Holy Chicken email. I’m going to share, in my opinion, the second most interesting thing I learned from the documentary. Nowadays, so many people are all about healthy, organic food. They want to get their food from Whole Foods or Trader Joe’s. Of course, the fast food industry noticed this health shift too, and wanted to get a piece of that profit pie. Take the infamous McDonald’s for example, they rebranded themselves from the place best known for cheap, fast food to a modern, progressive burger company. Part of that means to serve their cu... 411. Behold, the Grand Revelation of the Chicken Industry
August 31, 2020

It’s been over 8 years since I watched the famous American documentary about McDonald’s, “Super Size Me.” Yesterday, I finally watched the sequel, “Super Size Me 2: Holy Chicken.” Thank goodness for free YouTube movies with ads. I recommend you watch it at least once because there are a lot of business lessons that you can learn from this documentary. But there were a lot of eye-opening moments too, and today I’m going to share one of the biggest ones I’ve had. But first, some background info. (WARNING: There are spoilers from here on out.) During the film, o... (read more)

412. Every Introvert's Wet Dream Job
August 28, 2020

I was recently in a recording session for another podcast interview and the host asked me an interesting question, “Do you think email is great for introverts? If so, why?” My answer? Of course! Being an introvert myself, I love me some alone time. I love it so much that sometimes I would go through an entire day without talking to a single soul. Or when I schedule meetings with people, I’d be excited about it for the first few minutes. One or two hours later I’d think to myself, “$#!t, I gotta talk to someone in the future,” and have a slight desire to cancel. ... (read more)

413. The #1 Reason Most People Buy Something Is Because....
August 27, 2020

When I was a child, I used to love reading mystery books. Specifically, the A to Z Mysteries books by Ron Roy. Like the alphabet, there were 26 titles. One title for each letter. I never got to read all 26 titles, I only read the ones that were available in my classroom. I remember hearing some books were missing because students took them home and never brought them back. Anyways, I really enjoyed reading those books, so much so that I would reread them multiple times. If I had to give one reason why I enjoyed them, it’s most likely because they’re packed with curiosity an... (read more)

414. 9 Video Marketing Challenges & How to Solve Them
August 27, 2020

Your Video Marketing Guide for Success I’ve established that a video marketing strategy is a must these days in earlier blog articles. I’ve shared how important it is to engage your audience, and how creating compelling videos can help you increase brand awareness, improve SEO and boost leads and sales. In fact, Google research shows that 55% of consumers use videos for purchase decisions. According to this research, marketers get 66% more qualified leads per year by using it. And a survey conducted by Wyzowl shows that nearly eight out of every ten users have purchased a piece of s... (read more)

415. Why I Still Follow This Content Creator Even When He Makes Content I Have No Interest In
August 25, 2020

Last night, I tuned into a late night talk show. No it wasn’t one of those Conan, Jimmy Kimmel, or Stephen Colbert shows. It was a show on the famous streaming platform, Twitch, where two videogame content creators were having a regular conversation. One of whom I’ve been following for the last six years. They were talking about everything from relationships to life perspectives, food, beer, travel, school, and work. If my memory serves me right, I believe that was the first time I tuned into a talk show session from beginning to end. The stories they’d share with each... (read more)

416. The Great False Bachelor's Degree Life Hack
August 22, 2020

One of my friends recently told me a (most likely false) fact about colleges and universities. If you attend a four year college or university and the campus gets destroyed, you automatically earn your bachelor’s degree. “What a great life hack,” I initially thought. Turns out, it’s not true at all. I wasn’t surprised when I found out either. It sounds too far-fetched. But just imagine how funny it’d be to hear people boast, “Yeah, I got my bachelor’s degree in just one semester.” Unfortunately, life is not like that. There are no shortcuts. Just like ho... 417. Some Honorable Mentions of My Exiled Email Readers
August 21, 2020

One day I was giving my email list a little checkup to see how you and the rest of my readers were doing, and I saw a couple of eye-catching things. Some people who opted into my email list never read a single email I sent other than the one that has the link to my lead magnet, the sample chapters of How to Become an Email Titan. I immediately booted them out because they just wanted the free information hoping they’d learn a new secret tip or something. Other people left because they complained about getting too many emails from me. I couldn’t wrap my head around that because both m... (read more)

419. Going Back to the Days of My Rubik's Cube Obsession
August 18, 2020

Back in middle school, I was known as the Rubik’s cube nerd, and rightfully so because my classmates would see me with that toy in my hand every single day. Ever since the day I saw one of my friends play with the cube, I’ve been obsessed with figuring out how to solve it and how to solve it as fast as possible. One minute and two seconds was my fastest record. Even my teachers were so impressed that they didn’t even bother confiscating it. I guess they were so used to seeing me with it, they saw it as an extension of my hand. To this day, I still remember how to solve it. ... (read more)

420. Why I Think Art Classes Shouldn't Belong In Academic Schools
August 17, 2020

Personally, I don’t think art classes should be actual classes in school. And I say that for one reason only. Art is completely subjective. Whatever you create, there are always going to be people who like it and people who are going to hate it. That’s why I think the idea of having one person looking at someone’s work and grading it doesn’t sit right with me. I remember back in high school, I was watching an art teacher grade some of her students’ drawings. She picked up a student’s artwork, looked at them for a few minutes and wrote their final grades on the back. T... (read more)

421. Let's Get Down to Memes
August 14, 2020

You know what I find crazy? This has to do with the startup skincare company I consulted for. My colleague found out from his girlfriend, who apparently works with the company, that they pay people around $1,000 to brainstorm memes for their social media channels. At first, when I heard that, I thought that was one ridiculous way to spend $1,000. But now that I think about it, it’s not so different from writers getting paid to write jokes for a TV show. It takes a lot of creativity to think of new jokes, you know? And looking at their Instagram page, their memes aren’t... (read more)

422. Gingivoplasty Using Diode Laser
August 13, 2020

Introduction- An excessive display of gingiva resulting from a high lip line and abnormal gingival overgrowth often complicates treatment planning and can compromise the final esthetic result. Gingival morphology is being considered as an important factor in smile designing. One significant feature of gingival morphology is the gingival line, which is defined as the line joining the tangents of the gingival zeniths of the central incisor and canine. The gingival zenith is the most apical aspect of free gingival margin. With the current emphasis on cosmetic concerns and esthetics in dentistry, ... (read more)

8 Ways to Improve Your Email Marketing Campaigns I’m sure you’ve signed up for digital newsletters in the past (hopefully eVision Media’s!). Thinking back, do you remember what made you engage with a company’s eNewsletter? Chances are, it was one of these three reasons: 1. To get info on sales and discounts. 2. To be entertained. 3. To learn something valuable. Engagement-based email marketing relates to how your subscribers interact with your eNewsletter. Once they’ve opened it up, you still need to wow them with your content. So this week, I’m shari... (read more)

424. Free Marketing Lesson From Steve Jobs
August 12, 2020

A few days ago, I came across an interesting video on YouTube. It was Steve Jobs speaking at the Worldwide Developer Conference in 1997. During that conference, there was a moment where an audience member, who was clearly upset, asked young Steve Jobs this attacking question: “...It's sad and clear that on several accounts you don't know what you're talking about. I would like for you to express in clear terms, say how Java, in any of its incarnations, addresses the idea that it embodies in OpenDoc. And when you're finished with that, perhaps you could tell us personally what yo... (read more)
