476. Unfortunately, This Person Needed to Learn How to Cater an Email List
June 13, 2020
Allow me to share a story from my virtual networking days on Bumble.
I once met a woman who was originally from California. After exchanging some messages on the app. We decided to continue our conversation over the phone.
We went through the usual networking ice breaker, the initial “what do you do” portion of the conversation. After I shared my story, she told me that she works for a travel company and suggested I tell my readers about it.
At first I was a bit confused why she would suggest that, especially since we just started getting to know each other and she never asked a... (read more)

June 04, 2020
In the marketing world, the most valuable thing you can get from your customer is not their money.
It’s their attention.
Yes, it is nice for them to give you their money, but it doesn’t happen if you don’t get their attention in the first place.
Attention is something that cannot be stressed enough in the marketing world. Everything we do revolves around getting our customer’s attention.
And we only have one chance to grab their first few seconds of it.
When it comes to video, we use an attractive thumbnail.
When it comes to sales letters, we use big bold text and... (read more)

481. What You Can Learn From the Breakdown of a Social Media Influencer
June 04, 2020
Sometimes I wonder what it’s like to be a social media influencer.
It must be pretty nice income-wise.
Getting paid thousands of dollars to post one thing. Or if you’re on Kim Kardashian’s level of fame, you get paid up to $500,000 just to post once on Instagram endorsing a product.
Must be a pretty great lifestyle, thinking that your financial abundance is secure.
Unfortunately a year ago, 100K+ following Instagram influencer, Jessy Taylor, made the mistake of letting that thought get into her head.
One day, Instagram decided to delete her account after receiving a lo... (read more)

482. Don't Be a Bumblebee in Marketing
June 04, 2020
One of my favorite cartoon shows I loved watching when I was young was Transformers. I still remember I’d get home from school, and watch some cartoon shows before starting my homework, one of the shows being that show.
When I found out they released a Michael Bay’s Transformers movie in theaters for the first time, I knew I had to see it. And I gotta say, after watching four out of the five movies, I was definitely not disappointed.
Everything was great!
The action.
The visual effects.
The humor.
And the characters. One of my favorite characters in the entire fra... (read more)

483. LEAD FOR THE DAY: QUANTITY OR QUALITY
June 01, 2020
The age-old debate: quantity versus quality. It’s a topic of conversation in many parts of your life. Would you rather go to a buffet and have access to an abundance of mediocre cuisine or prefer to go to a nice restaurant and have one amazing meal that you can really savor? It’s especially relevant in business. Do you want a large team of average workers or would you rather have a smaller team that are the best in their trade? Steve Jobs once said: “A small team of A+ players can run circles around a giant team of B and C players”. As corporate event planners, we noticed the quantity versus ... (read more)

May 28, 2020
3 Ways to Use Empathetic Content Marketing When I say the word “empathy,” what do you associate it with? Kindness to a family member going through a hard time? Supporting your partner when they’ve had a bad day? Or, does a business-related example come to mind? 486. Check Out This T-shirt
May 27, 2020
A while ago, I designed myself a t-shirt for fun. It was a white t-shirt with a picture of a suit and blue tie, and on the bottom it said, "Business casual." I thought it was a clever design and wore it to a couple of professional networking events instead of a traditional business attire. When I told some of my friends this, they looked at me like I was stupid.
I've gotten some responses from them like:
"That's so unprofessional."
"People won't take you seriously."
"Hahahahahaha."
Yeah I got laughed at.
But it doesn't matter because I still met some amazing peopl... (read more)

487. Secrets From the Simple Painter
May 22, 2020
I love Bob Ross. He was my childhood hero.
If you don't know him, he was an amazing painter. And he was the host of The Joy of Painting, which was a relaxing instructional painting show.
If you never watched an episode and you’re curious about it, they pretty much have all the episodes on YouTube. Just search ‘Bob Ross’ and they’ll show up.
From time to time, I watch some of his episodes and they still amaze me till this day.
The biggest thing that amazes me is the fact that he has a very simple art style. In just 30 minutes, he can paint a beautiful landscape that looks li... (read more)

491. Experience Luxury Dining Inside the Queen of the Skies
May 17, 2020
Let me tell you something about Pan Am.
Pan Am, also known as Pan American Airways, was an airline founded back in 1927. They were arguably one of the most innovative airlines that shaped the airline industry as we know it today.
I won't go into its entire history, let's focus on the peak of its era in the late 1960s.
One of the things they were known for was providing luxury air travel.
Passengers were flying in luxurious cabins, serviced by elegantly dressed flight attendants, and eating fancy meals.
Unfortunately, a series of unfortunate events caused Pan Am to decl... (read more)

492. A Valuable Lesson to Learn From Photography
May 16, 2020
Last year, I took a film photography class. And honestly, it was one of the most fun classes I ever took by far.
I loved learning the whole old school photography process. Everything from how to use a film camera, to developing film rolls and printing pictures.
Throughout the semester, we would have to take pictures based on a certain theme. After going out and taking pictures, we'd develop the film and print out our top three pictures.
At the end of each assignment, we would do a class critique. We'd take our top three pictures, pin them on the board, present them, and get feed... (read more)

493. The Evolution of My Personal Choice of Music
May 16, 2020
I find it interesting that as time goes on, the type of music we listen to changes, at least it happens to me.
My first exposure to music was listening to my cousin’s playlist. He mainly had a lot of rock songs from bands like Linkin Park and Green Day.
As I got older, I started to follow the mainstream pop music. I listened to artists like Sia, Justin Timberlake, and Maroon 5. Then I traveled back in time to explore the 90s hip hop music from people like Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Tupac, and The Notorious B.I.G. thanks to the influence of my former Burger King crew, but also less vulgar son... When I first started building my email list, I wanted to use Facebook ads to grow it. The results weren't as fast as I liked it to be since I didn't do a lot of testing, but it was still getting me results.
But then one day, I got a comment from a person who came across my ad and wrote,
"Have to agree to receive promotional emails, no thank you."
Well...
I don't know why she had to be a jerk and make a public comment about it instead of just leaving my page and moving on. But I guess that's how some people are like on social media.

498. The Deceiving Plague That's Been Haunting Internet Users For Many Years

Over the years, I slowly stopped playing mobile app games. Most of them never really got me to play them for a long period of time except for a select few.
Today I'm down to one game, which means less time spent on my phone.
Awesome.
But if you've played any mobile games before, you'll notice a lot of them have one thing in common.
Advertisements.
Advertisements that promote other mobile games, but it's not just that. Most ads you see are pretty misleading.
They'll usually show you a video showcasing the game, and you can tell on certain ads that whoever made them... (read more)

499. The Only Reason Why I Like the US President

The things I read on the news nowadays make me think, "Is this a joke?" And those things come from none other than the man who lives in the White House. The man leading the United States in the most unconventional and questionable way.
President Donald Trump.

500. Watch Your Language
May 14, 2020
For some reason, this memory has stuck with me till this day and I thought I’d share it with you because it can make a good lesson.
This time we’re going way back to the days I was in elementary school.
The school day was winding down and I was helping my teacher clean up the classroom. All of a sudden, my teacher got my attention and asked me,
”Ellisen, do you want to sweep?”
When I heard that, I was thinking in my head, “What does sweep mean? Is that a candy? It sounds like a bad thing.”
So I shook my head and walked away. Soon after, my teacher asked one of my class... (read more)
