151. How to Play the Client Acquisition Game on Easy Mode
January 18, 2021

Over the weekend, I caught up with a friend whom I haven’t seen in over 10 months. The reasons are quite obvious. But the less obvious reason is that he’s been traveling out-of-state. We caught up over lunch. We ate at a place called Dan & John’s Wings. If you’re in New York City, I highly recommend eating there at least once. Their chicken wings are addictively delicious. Anyways, that’s besides the point. One of the things I found out from my friend is that he started his own matchmaking agency. And no, it’s not what you most likely think it is. It’s not one of ... 152. Bending the Unwritten Rules of Email Marketing
January 15, 2021

For the past few days, I’ve been working on completing my 2021 strategy, specifically the part where I revamp my welcome sequence. As of right now, it’s just one simple welcome email that has the link to the sample chapters of my book. But now I’m thinking of making some of the following changes: 1. Convert and condense all the chapters in the PDF file into a sequence of emails. Instead of letting my new email subscribers wait for the welcome email, download the PDF, open it, and finally read its content, why not just give the content straight to them by putting them in the... 153. Tip on How to Have Engaging Conversations With Almost Anyone
January 14, 2021

One thing I noticed from watching TV shows is this: Most of the time, each season, or even each episode, has two plots. Take the show I talked about last week, Phineas and Ferb. Each episode has two plots. One where Phineas and Ferb build something extraordinary and their sister tries to bust them. The other one where it follows another spy adventure of Perry the Platypus trying to take down Dr. Doofenshmirtz. Another example, A crime show I’ve been watching, Grimm, has a similar structure. One plot, which is the crime case itself, which is different in each episode, t... (read more)

154. Tales from the Online Marketing Crypt #9 Why Cheap Websites Are More Expensive Than You Think
January 14, 2021

Tales from the Online Marketing Crypt – Vol. 9 Your Website May Be Under-Performing Because It’s Underpaid During one of my usual jaunts on Facebook, I came across a post where someone was making the argument to invest properly in a website, and they listed all the reasons to do so. Heck, I could have written that post myself! ? And as per usual, then came many responses that all pretty much said the same thing: “But what if I have no money?” Ah yes, the money objection is a big one. And a valid one too! So valid that it’s something every parent has said to us when we were... (read more)

155. This Burger King Manager Went Above and Beyond to Give His Customers the Best Experience
January 13, 2021

One last trip to the customer service memory bank. Let’s talk about an example of what good customer service looks like. To do that, we need to go all the way back to 2015, the year I got my first job in Burger King. For one year, I worked with three managers. The general manager and two assistant managers. But since I mainly worked during the later days, I didn’t work with the general manager as much so technically, I mainly worked with just two. Let me tell you, these two had management styles that were as different as they could get. One of them, we’ll call him Jay... (read more)

156. The Tale of Paypal's Brilliant Online Customer Service Quality
January 12, 2021

Here’s a pleasant customer service story I pulled out of my memory bank. I have two Paypal accounts. One that I currently use. And there’s another one that I created probably years back, but I completely forgot about. Apparently, the older account was created under my email address, but also under my brother’s personal information. So he asked me to delete the account. The only problem was, there was one dollar in the account for some reason and we were unable to delete the account until the money was transferred out. And for some reason, I couldn’t connect our bank account... (read more)

158. A Tale From the Restaurant Service Crypt
January 11, 2021

I personally don’t go to high-end restaurants often. As far as I remember, there have only been two instances where I did go. The first time was at a steakhouse where they served wagyu beef. Fun fact, that was also the first time I ate wagyu beef. I still remember the texture of the meat as if I ate it last week. It was a very interesting dining experience indeed. The second time was more recent. My friend and I went to a steakhouse not so far from where I live. It definitely wasn’t as expensive as the first steakhouse I went to, but it was still a high-end restaurant in my eyes... (read more)

159. Email Copywriting Lesson From a Professional Musician
January 08, 2021

Earlier today, I caught up with a good business friend of mine. We haven’t spoken since May so we had quite a lot to talk about. Most of the conversation was, of course, business related matters. But towards the end, it transitioned into the topic of music. After all, it was a conversation about music that began our relationship. Being the professional musician that he is, among other things, I asked him for some advice as I make progress on building my music making skills. The main takeaways? 1. Let your feelings guide you. 2. Be open minded. 3. Trust y... (read more)

160. Is This Even Real Life Anymore?
January 07, 2021

This world becomes more and more interesting as the days go by. Apparently, yesterday I heard that the US Capitol was raided by none other than Trump supporters to protest against Joe Biden’s presidential victory. I expected something like this to happen in a videogame, but never in the ‘real world.’ What a great way to start the new year, am I right? Now, I personally don’t care who becomes president. If Trump had gotten reelected, fine. But Biden ended up winning, which is also cool with me. But if there’s one thing I have to say, it’s that Trump did a pretty great j... (read more)

161. Marketing Lesson From One of the Most Unusual Entrepreneurs In Existence
January 06, 2021

Elon Musk has always been a fascinating entrepreneur to me. I recently found out that he gave his baby a very unusual name, X AE A-XII Musk. It may look like he and his wife came up with that name just by having a cat type on the keyboard, but there’s a specific meaning to it. The X represents a variable. AE means love or artificial intelligence in elven spelling. And A-XII is the name of Musk and his wife’s favorite plane. But that’s not all. If you look at all the Tesla models he released, the letters and number spell S-3-X-Y. His Model S has a starting pri... (read more)

162. Marketing Amplification Secret From the Explosion of the eSports Industry
January 05, 2021

I’m sure nobody would’ve seen this coming. To see videogames covered by mainstream media. To see hundreds of thousands of people attend live gaming events worldwide. For videogames to be people’s full time career. To see a 16 year old win a huge tournament and become a multimillionaire overnight. Gaming has become a thing bigger than anyone would’ve ever imagined. In the past, I went to two live gaming events myself and let me tell you, the energy of the arena is very much like the energy you see in traditional sports events. Gaming is no longer just a stereo... (read more)

163. Email Copywriting Tip From Phineas and Ferb
January 04, 2021

One of my favorite childhood shows was Phineas and Ferb. It’s a Disney show about two boys on summer vacation, and figuring out how to make their days fun. It’s a show that I never got tired of, even though each episode was extremely predictable. Here’s what I mean. Like all TV shows, almost all the episodes follow the exact same structure, and it goes a little something like this: • The show starts off with the two main characters starting another summer vacation day. • A few minutes into the episode, an idea pops up in Phineas’ head and says one of his famous on... 165. The Harry Potter Secret Question You Must Always Ask Yourself When You Write Emails
January 01, 2021

I spent parts of my last few days of 2020 watching the Harry Potter movie series with some friends who’ve never watched them before. So far, we’ve finished the first three movies: The Sorcerer’s Stone, The Chamber of Secrets, and The Prisoner of Azkaban. It feels great to go through the entire series again, watching everything from my all-time favorites scenes to the ones I’ve forgotten. Speaking of films, one of my friends sometimes asks me to watch film analysis videos with her. And being the curious George that I am, I agree to do so. So naturally, I start paying more attenti... 166. Come inside this article as I show you my 2021 strategy
December 31, 2020

At least for the first quarter of 2021, I have a rough strategy of how I’m going to approach my business. The focus for this next few months revolves around building my email list much more aggressively and revamp my nurturing process for my future 2021 readers. So here are my plans so far: 1. Aggressive list building This doesn’t necessarily mean I’m going to build my list using faster, paid methods, but doing what I’m doing already at a greater rate, including booking podcast interviews, virtual face-to-face networking, etc. 2. Power up my blog with SEO juice Ev... (read more)

167. Why "The Magic Lantern" Technique May Not Be So Magical After All
December 29, 2020

Last year, I read a book called, Sell Like Crazy: How to Get As Many Clients, Customers, and Sales As You Can Possibly Handle by Sabri Suby I saw a Facebook ad to get this book for free (But have to pay shipping), and I had cash to burn so why the heck not? I bought the book and finished reading it in about a few weeks. In my opinion, it was a valuable read. I don’t regret purchasing it at all. At the same time, there was no “new” or “secret” information either. So if you’re one of those one-star complainers on Amazon, don’t even bother buying it, you’ll just end up d... (read more)

168. Infotainment At Its Finest
December 28, 2020

A few days ago, I found an interesting newsmagazine program on YouTube called Inside Edition. A couple of videos stood out to me. “The Rude Behavior of New York Commuters” “Rude Commuter Behavior Caught Happening on New York Subways” “How New York Commuters Evade Paying Subway Fares” I checked those out mainly because I’m a native New Yorker and I can completely relate to those titles. When I finished watching them, I didn’t know what to think. I couldn’t tell if Inside Edition was a serious broadcast or they just do satire news because their style of reporti... (read more)

170. What to Do to Make Sure Your Copywriting Isn't As Useless As a Pet Rock
December 25, 2020

A friend of mine recently got me into watching crime TV shows. The first show she introduced me to was Grimm. The show is about a detective who discovers that he is a descendant of a group called the Grimms. Their lifelong duty is to maintain balance between the humans from Wesens, or creatures that disguise themselves as humans. But as a Grimm, he can tell the Wesens apart from regular humans. Then, I got introduced to another show called Criminal Minds. It pretty much has the same concept. The show follows an FBI squad as they solve numerous crimes. I only watched the fir... (read more)

171. Let's Relive Facebook's Scandalous Side of Their History
December 24, 2020

Let’s talk about the big tech company, Facebook. This morning, I came across an article talking about how Facebook is fighting against Apple’s new privacy policy changes. But then the article goes on to talk about how Facebook is on the decline and may potentially crash. Just by reading it, there’s no denying that the author has a grudge against Facebook. But that doesn’t mean there’s some truth to what he said. One of the major points he made was that Facebook broke the trust of its users over time, which is understandable. If we go back in time, there were a lot of scanda... (read more)

172. Why I Don't Like the Way Colleges Prepare Students For Their Future Careers
December 22, 2020

Throughout my college career, I noticed some problems with how they prepare students for the job searching process. I mean, that’s not the only problem I noticed. There are a lot more issues I have with college, but I won’t talk about them all today. I'll save them for another day. But let’s zoom in on the job search preparation process. 1. Writing I don’t fully understand what caused this, but I know a lot of people overthink when it comes to writing. Whether it be an email to a hiring manager, or answers to job application questions. And I get it if you’re concerned about... (read more)

174. Chef Ellisen Comin' to You Today
December 21, 2020

Cooking has been a relatively new interest of mine. Whenever I get the opportunity to cook and experiment with new ingredients, I go ahead and do so. The dishes may or may not taste good, but at least I’ll know for the future. I remember talking to a friend one day and he told me something that really simplified my view on cooking. He said, “Cooking is like art. The food itself is your blank canvas. Your herbs, spices, and seasonings are your different colored paints, so to speak.” A very good way to look at it that way. Similarly, on a podcast show, the host said... (read more)

175. What I've Been Dreaming About Lately
December 20, 2020

One aspect of American pop culture that I used to be largely obsessed with (And still am, but to a smaller degree) is zombies. Zombie TV shows, movies, video games. You name it. I’ve watched iZombie, Zombieland 1 & 2, Peninsula. I also used to play Left 4 Dead, World War Z, etc. Sometimes I even wished I was put into an actual zombie apocalypse to see what it’d be like. But then my mind goes back to reality and thinks, “Nah,don’t be stupid. Why would I want to put myself through something terrifying and chaotic like that?” Speaking of which. I don’t know abou...
