176. What happened to our attention spans?
June 15, 2021

They say our attention spans are now worse than a goldfish’s. I’m not too sure if that’s true, but I do see instances of it being proven true. A couple of examples off the top of my head: People skipping songs before they even get to the end (Probably not the best example, but I’ll list it anyway). Checking social media in the middle of doing work. Skimming through any kind of long form content. I once heard that our attention spans didn’t necessarily get worse, it just evolved so now we’re more selective of what we pay attention to, which makes sense. Or it’... (read more)

177. How an apparently irrelevant celebrity can still draw the public's attention at will
June 14, 2021

Here’s an example of a celebrity who doesn’t let his haters faze him. Kid Rock. I had no idea this person existed until I read about him. At first, I thought he was Miley Cyrus’ dad, but nope, he’s a completely different person. Recently, I read that he got upset that the audience recorded him while he performed on stage at some restaurant in Tennessee. He yelled at him and used a specific colorful word that starts with the letter F and rhymes with maggot. I also learned that two years ago, he attacked Oprah and another person named Joy Behar, and that caused people to call... (read more)

178. Why your haters are the best pro bono PR agents for your business
June 11, 2021

There’s a quote that never fails to make me laugh, or smile at the very least. And it’s from what some people refer to him as the Father of American Literature, Mark Twain. “Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.” This doesn’t apply to just stupid people, but haters, trolls, and keyboard warriors alike. As soon as you start fighting with them, you automatically stoop down to their level. That’s why the best way to deal with those types of people is to thank them for their service. Think about it li... (read more)

179. First impression is everything, but not really
June 10, 2021

Let me start this off with an instance that you may or may not have experienced. I recently joined somebody’s email list. After being on it for a good while, I looked back at the emails and noticed some things that were off-putting. Seeing words in the subject line that weren’t separated by spaces. Instead of seeing my name on an email, I would see *FIRST NAME*. When the person would manually send out a reminder email for a webinar, they would cc every single person’s email on the registration list. Seeing an image of the person holding up a piece of paper with wo... (read more)

180. How To E-A-T Your Way to the Content Google Likes
June 10, 2021

Follow These EAT Guidelines to Improve Your Website SEO You know what they say – you are what you eat. Of course, when people say this, they’re usually discussing your diet, and how your food choices impact your health. But what about the health of your website? Turns out what your website ‘eats’ plays a big role, too! I’m talking, of course, about EAT, part of Google’s new search guidelines. If you want to create content that Google likes, then you MUST follow EAT! EAT stand for three important criteria that Google uses when evaluating your site: Expertise Auth... (read more)

181. How this billion dollar industry succeeds by breaking one fundamental marketing rule
June 09, 2021

I’m talking about the online dating industry. I explored this thought while I was on my daily walk. Like any business, online dating apps need single people to be using their services to make money. When someone finds a relationship, they lose two customers. So it doesn’t make sense, profit-wise, for these businesses to help people find dates that’ll lead to relationships. So what do they do? They try to keep you hooked for as long as possible by providing you an abundance of potential dates, which looks like a good thing on paper because you have endless options. But ... (read more)

June 08, 2021

What is Operculectomy? Operculectomy is the procedure of surgically removing the operculum or the flap of gum that partially covers over a tooth. 184. How to play the PR game on easy mode
June 08, 2021

Being on TV is powerful. You’re able to get so much attention in a short period of time. And if you’re on TV to promote your own business, that can mean a boatload of new customers. Just look at the businesses that got a huge spike of newfound sales after being featured on Shark Tank, they’re all perfect examples of what I’m talking about. But it’s not easy though. It’s definitely tough, speaking from secondhand experience. Back when I interned at a startup non-profit, the Executive Director spent a good amount of time developing a worldwide program called Planned Acts of Kindne... (read more)

185. Social media challenge rant part two
June 07, 2021

Long ago, I made a post talking about the different social media challenges. And today, I’m going to be talking about them again, but from a slightly different angle. To start off, I’m going to blindly assume that people participate in these challenges to get a taste of online fame. Because after all, if these challenges are trending on social media platforms and they post videos of themselves doing the challenges, then they should be getting more views than if they were to put out other kinds of content, right? But here’s where the irony comes in. Everyone is doing th... (read more)

186. How This One Thing Can Destroy a Client Relationship
June 03, 2021

Tales from the Online Marketing Crypt #18 Why being mindful of clients’ perspectives can keep them supporting your business We all have them. Days when everything pisses us off. In fact, I doubt there’s a human being on this planet who hasn’t been in a bad mood every now and then. I know I sure have my fair share of them! And for a variety of reasons too. But there’s one thing we business owners have an unwritten rule about (well probably it’s written somewhere by someone) is that no matter what, we don’t bring our bad mood with us when communicating with cli... 187. How to make friends as adults
June 03, 2021

As we get older, it gets more difficult to make new friends. Most of your time is spent either at work, with your kids, with your significant other, or all of the above. Overall, we’re living our own lives. And it’s the same case with our friends so it becomes more difficult to schedule time to meet up. I’m personally starting to feel the difficulty in meeting new people as well, especially since I’m no longer in school and would much rather be left alone doing my own things. It was so much easier when we were younger and friendships kind of just came naturally. And now it’s a myster... (read more)

188. Even when people go to extremes, they're unable to get any attention
June 01, 2021

Take this video I watched, for example. It was a surveillance clip from Inside Edition showing an armed robber attempting to force a cashier to hand over all the money from the register. The funny thing was, the cashier noticed him but continued to prepare food for the customer who ordered it. He gave the customer the food, both pretending as if the armed robber wasn’t even there, and the cashier walked away. After a few moments, the armed robber walked out while looking back and gave the cashier a ‘forget you’ gesture. Nothing must feel worse when you can’t get anybod... (read more)

190. All hell is breaking loose for those who rely on ad revenue
May 31, 2021

Nowadays, more and more people are making a living off of being content creators on platforms like YouTube and Twitch. But at the same time, more and more people are being screwed over by the exact same platforms. Take this story, for example: There’s a YouTube content creator I’ve been following for almost 10 years. In one of his podcast episodes, he revealed that at the peak of his career, he was making over $10,000 per month. His channel blew up after one of his rant videos went viral. Since then, he grew it by consistently uploading videos once or twice a week, and the ... (read more)

The recent development of lasers has helped many professionals make strides in their industries, and the oral care and hygiene industry is no exception. The surgical procedure has since been adopted by many surgeons and is praised for its accuracy and precision in removing gum tissue from around teeth. 192. What happens when you give a quality camera to a beginner photographer
May 28, 2021

Long ago, I joined an affiliate marketing course. Like a lot of digital courses, one of the perks came with access to a private Facebook group. It was easy to tell that the course was marketed towards beginner online businesspeople. There were a lot of common questions like: “What’s the best Wordpress theme to use?” “Should I get Clickfunnels? Or is there a better alternative?” Remembering this reminded me of a conversation I listened to between a photographer and film editor, and it went something like this. One of the photographer’s fans asked the photograp... (read more)

193. Paying my respect to the stand-up comedy business
May 27, 2021

If you follow the stand-up comedy world, you probably know that the whole business is slowly getting ruined by cancel culture. One of the latest comedians under fire is Tony Hinchcliffe, who’s mainly known for insult comedy. During his final performance before he got canceled, there was an Asian stand-up comic who performed before him. And when he introduced the crowd to Tony Hinchcliffe, that’s when the situation started going down. Someone posted an edited video on Twitter where he started off his set with, “How about one more time, for the filthy little f---ing ch--k tha... (read more)

194. Choosing The Right Photos For Your Website & Online Brand
May 27, 2021

How smart companies use images to boost their online presence You might think for an agency that does so much web design and blogging, we’re just writing and geeking out on code all day. And that’s partly true - we do do a lot of writing and custom coding (see why custom built websites are usually your best bet here). But part of being a good digital agency is understanding the role that visuals play, both in creating a website and fostering an online brand and presence. Forget the old saying. Online, a picture is worth way more than a thousand words. That’s why toda... (read more)

195. Not all big businesses are heartless after all
May 25, 2021

Throughout my life so far, I’ve only traveled by plane a total of two times. Once to Atlanta to attend a live seminar put up by the great business and mindset coach, David Neagle. The other time to Chicago with a friend as a spontaneous trip. Both of those airline experiences were quite pleasant. But I know some people have had unpleasant experiences, especially when they travel with children. Thankfully, American Airlines has a heart and I read that they launched a new program to make group traveling a lot less stressful. For a small fee of $150, or large dependi... (read more)

197. Why I chose music production over photography
May 20, 2021

Music vs pictures. Which one is more likely to provoke an emotional response? That was one of the main questions I had in mind when I was choosing between music and photography as my new hobby to pursue about two years ago. At the time, I was taking a film photography class in college and I was having a conversation with a friend, who’s also a photography enthusiast, while we visited a photography expo. We were talking about how we both thought about learning music production as a hobby, but we had different reasons for getting into it. I wanted to get into it because ... (read more)

198. The story of unapologetic apartment trespassers
May 18, 2021

I can’t believe these types of people exist. Let me explain. On a podcast episode, there were two people (Dave and Ed) who moved into a new apartment in Koreatown, Los Angeles. After they moved in, they threw a house party where anyone in the town was allowed to attend. But that wasn’t the only party, they threw a couple of other weekend house parties as well. Soon enough, they pretty much established themselves as the new friendly, welcoming neighbors of Koreatown. And while it sounds nice to have a good reputation in a new neighborhood, this particular one came with ... (read more)

200. A close examination into cancel culture
May 17, 2021

That is going to be the topic for today. I read a sentence online that was really interesting, which was, “Cancel culture is not real.” Let’s think about this for a few minutes because it’s possible that there’s possibly some truth in that sentence. First off, the way it works is that somebody, typically a celebrity or influencer, says or does something their critics don’t like, they bombard them with negativity and criticism, and then they disappear from the face of the world. Sometimes their critics call them out on an opinion that they don’t agree with. Sometimes th... (read more)
