Maybe it won’t be the case for you, but regardless, it’s an interesting business case study to share.
In 2017, Epic Games released Fortnite. With more than 100 million players joining in under one year, it became one of the most popular, if not THE most popular game in the entire world.
But Epic Games is also a PC game distribution platform. Meaning, you can go onto their platform, download and play games from a variety of publishers.
For many years, Steam, another video game distribution platform owned by Valve, has been the most popular platform in the market, and nobody has been able to successfully compete against it.
That is, until in December 2018, Epic Games announced the release of their own distribution platform and have been slowly adding a variety of games since then, including some of the most popular mainstream games.
In my opinion, they wouldn’t have achieved this if they hadn’t taken advantage of the momentum of the large audience they gained from Fortnite.
The bigger your audience, the more influence you have and the easier it is for you to achieve the results you want.
That’s why certain popular YouTube content creators can announce a release of their own book and it almost instantly becomes a bestseller.
It explains why you hear certain business owners making huge sales from one single email or something along those lines. Although in this case, selling high ticket products or services can also be an explanation. But having a large, responsive email list is a huge factor.
