Over the last couple of weeks I have posted some Blogs about some key essentials that are crucial to getting an internet based business up and running in a productive way. - The Plan which is the road map of your new internet business and is the Blueprint of your new venture.
- Your Goals, what you want to achieve and in what order. All written down nice and clear and displayed so they are “in your face”.
Nice formalized corporate type presentations in fancy folders look really good to a corporate employee, but for us that type of presentation is a complete waste of time. I would recommend that these are written out on loose leaf sheets in a simple easy to categorize format. To start they can be done in pencil. All for one very good reason; you can change things as you go along. At the start you are going to be making a lot of changes. As your skills improve you may even be deleting sections. You will certainly going to be changing the sequence of what you going to do and when. A loose leaf format also allows you to add flow sheets which are neat because you will have not only a written path but a visual one as well. This process might seem a bit over the top to start with but as you move on having some definition will be one of the key drivers to the rate of your success. We still have a very busy and successful off-line business that uses an on-line system for its marketing. Trying to juggle its needs and the needs of our on-line business that provides services and training is very difficult. Both, often require our immediate attention at the same time. To be productive for both requires not only a bit of discipline, but some careful planning and time management. We can not ignore the fact that our off-line business has functions that are required to be done between 9.00am and 5.00pm. At least we are only dealing with one time zone. The content of our on-line business can often be done outside those hours which is of little comfort if you end up working 16 hours a day, or 7 days a week. The three most distracting aspects of the off-line business are dealing with phone calls, responding to emails, and giving quotes. The most productive way of dealing with these is as follows: - Respond to phone calls every two or three hours unless absolutely critical.
- Same for emails.
- Quotes via phone are dealt with straight away, they are the lifeblood of the business (only a small percentage).
- Quotes via the net (the majority) are dealt with by a question page which outlines the parameters of the job, an autoresponder, and a follow-up phone call, once again only ever two or three hours.
The on-line business is completely different. There is huge scope to structure time spent around other aspects of your life. For most of you the creation of your on-line business will most likely be done in conjunction with a full or part-time job, or juggling the needs of a partner or family. In the past I have stated one of the most important strategies you can have is to involve your partner and family in executing your plans and achieving your goals. If they see the path and can visualize the benefits then they will be mindful of the “quiet time” needed for you to get things happening. Meaningful productivity will not happen if you are not in a routine that will allow it. If things are not quite going to plan or there is a delay for some reason, don’t beat yourself up over it. As long as you are moving forward to your next goal it will all come together. In The Web Mastery Academy site all of the training modules are set up so you can achieve the learning outcomes in easy steps. You may only achieve two or three steps a week, or you may achieve two a day. It doesn’t matter as long as you are moving forward. Even when you are putting the skills into practice, such as building your first landing page, and you find yourself redoing it several times. You are not going backwards, you are moving forward. We constantly change and tweak things. It’s an important part of getting things as close to 100% right as you can. It’s about getting your on-line presence as productive as you can. In the business world today, the most important thing in any business is your ability to change and the speed you can do this. The key here is to have plans and strategies that you can change and modify at the drop of a hat. It’s just fine tuning your productivity. It’s your biggest market advantage over a large company if you are in the same market. We talked about how those big glossy corporate plans and goals can be a waste of time. The process of changing them can often be very time-consuming and involve a lot of research and the involvement of several departments. You on the other hand are far more productive in adapting to a new direction. The slash of a pen and you can change or modify any strategy you have. This is a key driver in maintaining high levels of productivity and keeping well ahead of the big boys. Productivity is really just about getting the biggest bang for your buck. It’s the greatest gain for the resources you have available, and I’m including your time as a resource, in fact it’s your biggest resource. All your other web-based resources can be tweaked and improved to become more productive, but you only have a limited amount of time. Try to be as proactive, innovative, and productive as you can. When you treat your on-line business like this, success is a given. It might take a little time but it will happen. Just like a high converting landing page that you continue to tweak, try for every facet of your business to be productive, it will give you a market edge, and give you back some time for the other things in your life.
