Dixie is a charming miniature chocolate wirehaired dachshund. She has lots of energy and sometimes can be a bit mischievous. She likes to play a game of hide and sleep under the covers. She likes to bark so she makes a good little watchdog. Dixie is very lovable and loyal to her family that is why she has a Microchip to help ensure she will be returned just in case something bad would happen and she gets separated from her family. She is a wonderful pet and is usually good with the other family pets. However, she can get a little jealous if she feels she is not getting enough attention or if the other pets want to play with her toys. She can also be a little stubborn. She likes to do things her way. She used to be wary of strangers and would bark non-stop. Her family wanted their friends and families to love and cherish her so it was important that proper training was provided so that she did not develop any bad habits of being too possessive, too stubborn, or the bad habit of excessive barking. Dixie’s genealogy lines originate in Germany where dachshunds were bred to hunt. The original dachshunds were quite large and bred to hunt larger animals such as badgers and foxes. The miniature dachshunds were bred to hunt smaller animals such as rabbits and prairie dogs. Dixie has short legs and a long body. The longer body can cause back problems. Therefore, the family monitors Dixie’s diet so she does do not become overweight. The family also always use a leash when walking and exercising Dixie. She has a Microchip just in case something bad happens and she would get lost. The Microchip helps to ensure she will be returned to the family. Being a dog owner means being responsible for establishing good grooming and health habits. Dixie likes to have her fur and teeth brushed every day. She also gets bathed, her nails trimmed and her ears cleaned on a regular basis. This make for a happy well-groomed dog who likes to cuddle and be around people. When shopping for a good nutritional food for Dixie, the family ensures her food contains the six essential nutrients of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fiber, vitamins and minerals. Dog ownership also means taking Dixie to the Veterinarian on regular scheduled visits as well as when she appears to be ill. The Vet lets the family know what vaccinations are necessary and how often they are needed. She also prescribes the appropriate medication when Dixie gets sick.
