A massive car bomb has exploded outside Mogadishu’s new seaport, targeting security forces and port workers, witnesses said. An earthquake of magnitude 6.2 hit China's far western region of Xinjiang on Thursday, the China Earthquake Administration said, with tremors shaking buildings near the epicenter about 100 km (60 miles) west of the regional capital of Urumqi. There were no immediate reports of major damage or casualties from the quake, which struck at a depth of 6 km (4 miles). China's state news agency reports police have detained nine people in connection with the collapse last week of a cooling tower being built on a power plant site that killed 74 people. Xinhua said the board chairman of the Hebei Yineng engineering firm was among those arrested. 7. French Police Seek Suspect After Attack on Retirement Home

Police in southern France were looking Thursday for an armed man who killed a woman at a retirement home for missionaries. The man was wearing a mask and carrying a sawed-off shotgun when he burst into the home in Montferrier-sur-Lez, near Montpellier, which is home to around 70 men and women who have served as missionaries in Africa. 8. Myanmar Reports Fierce Fighting in Rakhine State

Myanmar on Sunday reported heavy fighting in the western state of Rakhine, where government forces near the border with Bangladesh have been hunting insurgents linked to attacks that authorities say killed nine police last month. 9. Iraqi Coalition Forces Discover 100 Decapitated Bodies South of Mosul

Iraqi authorities say the military coalition pressing a huge offensive against Islamic State extremists near the northern city of Mosul have uncovered a mass grave containing at least 100 decapitated bodies.  Initial reports Monday from Western and Kurdish journalists say the dead are believed to be civilians. The human rights group Amnesty International has accused Italian police of abusing migrants arriving on its shores from North Africa - abuses that include beatings and electric shocks.
