Do you believe that this year, 2012 would mark the beginning of a new age? Do you believe that the end is nearly coming as stated in many prophecies? We have been living in this world constantly hearing all these predictions that are written in the Holy Bible as well as in the accounts of Nostradamus. Michel de Nostradame, more popularly known as Nostradamus, was a French apothecary and alleged prophet who had published predictions which became popular and controversial worldwide. He has published the book “Les Propheties” or The Prophecies in 1955 on its first edition. Most of us think that Nostradamus accurately predicted many significant and tragic world events like the 9/11 attack. However, to some academic experts and analysts, Nostradamus predictions and their link to those worldly events remained to be the result of misinterpretations or mistranslations. It is said that his predictions were written in a language so obscure and vague which could be translated to mean almost anything, according to experts A line from one of his quatrain goes like this “a great thunder would be heard in the City of the God”. After immediately the ‘believed-to-be’ terrorist attack in World Trade Center, New York, that line was interpreted by many as the accurate prediction of the tragedy and the city of the God meant New York City. With that, it’s plain to see how Nostradamus often used obscure words and symbolism in his predictions, which were written in quatrains or four-line poems. Aside from the controversial 9/11 attack in New York, there are more Nostradamus predictions that have stirred the minds of people and experts. These include his predictions to the death of Princess Diana, the great fire in London, the second antichrist, Adolf Hitler and some vivid images of Germany during World War II, and the one that is yet to come- the impending apocalypse which said to occur this year, 2012. In his quatrains, Nostradamus often mentioned the coming of the third antichrist, worldwide famine and global warming which would all be connected to the end of the world. He also frequently mentioned the words, lack of food, disaster, burning of a great star, seas heating up as well as extreme storms. Moreover, the third antichrist, according to Nostradamus, is said to trigger the World war III and this war would be between the Christians and the Arabs. Whatever is the true meaning of his quatrains, probably he had written all those, not to scare us, but to warn us of what’s there to come. Although Nostradamus has used vague language and symbolism in his prophecies, his words were held to be significant and accurate with regards to the actual interpretation.
