Blending the results from both qualitative and quantitative research efforts require special steps in order to translate the various meanings behind the data involved in the project. Both concepts are very important in determining the conclusions of any research project and it is necessary to be able to translate results from one category to another. Numbers, which are quantitative in nature, have no meaning unless they are assigned some sort of descriptive value to be applied to the data. Unlike quantitative research, qualitative hypotheses and theories emerge from the data set while the data collection in progress and after data analysis started (Morse & Field, 1995). There are steps that are necessary in order to transmute qualitative data into quantitative data. Coding is a process that involves classifying and categorizing data and information into more manageable pieces of information to be manipulated and understood within the context of the researcher’s argument or hypothesis. When a piece of data is coded, it is entering another stage of analysis and reformation. A coded piece of information will ultimately be designated into a category or sub-category for further analysis. Segmenting and coding are vital to qualitative research process. Researchers in this area of investigation should be able to organize, manage and retrieve meaningful areas of the data (Coffey & Atkinson, 1996, P.26). Coding and categorizing data for manipulation is an essential process in the qualitative research design process and must be performed within a reasonable and understandable fashion. Researchers must be clear and explicit when defining new terms and coding data into these ideals. The nature of information suggests that it can always be reformatted and categorized into different groups. Researchers could eternally reformulate data and create new codes to place the information within due to the subjective nature of our human minds. The discipline required for researcher to maintain a constant stream of thought that is reflected in the coding process in qualitative research inquiries is critical in determining the validity and practicality of the research itself. The data is cluttered on Pakistani leadership paradigm. This has to be segmented into categories of phenomenon, and for relationship amongst categories as suggested in studies (Goetz & LeCompte, 1981, P. 57). Since coding itself is a form of analysis, when researchers begin to divide and organize their placement of data, a well thought out strategy and approach is greatly helpful in keeping the research project coherent and applicable to the real world. Coding and classifying is a continual process that must follow where the data and information leads, it requires a strong focus, discipline and a willful attitude that is dedicated to performing correct research that aims to solve problems and expose new ideas that can be helpful for those intent on using the research in future.
