All council run nursing care homes are actually registered for providing care and they are required to meet similar standards as voluntary and private care homes. The Current Scenario A consultation regarding the future of all the council run day centres and care homes for the seniors in Denbighshire has already started. The authorities are considering possibilities of closing down to slash expenses and concentrate on social spending within the community. The homes as well as the day care centres are also, going through the stress of an uncertain future are Denbigh, Corwen, Ruthin and Rhyl. In this context it needs to be pointed out that Wrexhan council has already agreed to close down its home. It is believed that in Denbighshire, there are talks about transferring all four care homes to some reputed external provider for saving up considerably. In Ruthin, there are increasing concerns about the future of council run Awelon care home. Public Opinion: The Final verdict People are encouraged to participate in the discussions and share their point of view. People are constantly being urged to share their thoughts on the future of these council run care homes. The proposals are known to include shutting down of Awelon Care Home based in Ruthin and other issue is transferring of Dolwen Home based in Denbigh to some operator in the private sector. However, officers have come up with recommendations of retaining Cysgod y Gaer that is based in Corwen. The proposals for shutting down council run care homes sparked off tremendous concerns among the public in general. Around 200 people turned up in Corwen for a public meeting to show solidarity among the people, who feel that it is a shame to close down these care homes. It is believed that over 100 people showed up to protest against the bulldozing plan in Awelon. Numerous leaflets have been distributed and petitions have been organized to protect these homes because people still firmly believe that there is a bright future for these council run nursing care homes.
