Top Tips for Playing Golf on Spanish Turf

Travel & Tourism,Sports
There is no arguing that when it comes to golf holidays, Spain is a destination that is up there among the best. If you are considering packing up the clubs and jetting off to warmer climes to play a few rounds, take heed of our advice below to avoid any unwanted surprises when you get there.

Tips for Taking on the Spanish Golfing Scene

Dress Appropriately

While this might seem obvious, it is surprising how many people turn up at a course wearing the wrong items of clothing. To get the most out of golf holidays in Spain you really need to get up to speed on the local rules and regulations when it comes to attire. Lots of courses have strict rules and it pays to be aware of these before you go. Generally though, be aware of what the weather is doing, wear correct footwear with plastic spikes, collared shirts and regulation trousers. Get this right and you won’t be backed into a corner and made to buy a replacement outfit at the expensive club pro shop!

What is Your Handicap?

Proof of handicap may be required to play with some clubs. It is wise to get this organised through your club secretary before heading off on any golf holidays. Spain’s courses allow players up to a cap 36 Handicap for ladies and 28 for men.

Tee Times

It is wise to be aware of peak busy times and times when the courses are more likely to be quieter. Bear in mind that the high season usually brings with it fewer busy afternoons, and this makes a round of golf much more peaceful. Check with every individual course what their latest tee time is; most offer a final tee time of 5pm during the summer.

Book Extras in Advance

It is wise to book any extras you need in advance. Every club has different rules regarding what comes with club, shoe and trolley hire. Wearing your own shoes if at all possible is always best, however, as the hired shoes are never as comfortable.

Get Some Insurance

All clubs have to have some kind of Public Liability Insurance coverage that is included in the green fee that you pay. It is always recommended, though, that you take out your own travel insurance too, as this will be more comprehensive and cover theft, medical and repatriation, among other things.

Remember Your Golf Etiquette

Always remember your manners. Just like on UK soil, there is an etiquette on a Spanish golf course that must be adhered to. Don’t drive buggies near greens, don’t obstruct other players, remember to rake bunkers and repair ball marks, as well as replace divots. You don’t want to be subjected to a telling off from the local steward, who may even ask you to leave if your behaviour is deemed inexcusable.

Treat the course and others with respect and you won’t go wrong.

Book with a Specialist Travel Company

Let the experts do the work for you when it comes to your next golfing trip. Book with a reputable travel company and you can rest assured that your holiday is in safe hands.

There is no doubting the attractiveness of this beautiful country as a destination for golf holidays. Spain’s reliable weather, excellent visibility, fabulous courses and diverse scenery make it a haven for lovers of this beautiful game, but remember, if you want to make the most of your trip, take heed of the advice above.
