The southern Menorcan gem of Cala Galdana is one of the most popular places visitors choose to make a base – and there are no prizes for guessing why. With its gorgeous horseshoe-shaped bay, stunning beaches, rugged cliffs and tranquil pine forests, the resort is truly picture-perfect and has the charm to back it up. From families and groups of friends to romantic couples looking for a quiet getaway, anyone who rents a Cala Galdana villa for a week or more will leave with a suitcase full of memories and a desire to be back as soon as possible. A Week of Sun, Sea, Sand and More If Menorca is on the cards for your next holiday, here’s how you could spend a week – or so much longer... Beaches, Beaches Everywhere From your base in a Cala Galdana villa, if you have access to a car you could choose a different beach in the surrounding area for every day of the week and still not get through half of them. The beach in the resort itself, however, is nothing short of spectacular, so you may not want to leave. The curving bay measures around 400 metres and is protected at both ends by cliffs. The crystal clear shallow waters are very safe and the fine white sand makes for a joy between your toes. Along with sunbeds and umbrellas there are plenty of places to grab a cold drink or food. If you spent every one of your seven days at this beach, nobody would blame you. Water Sports Galore If you’ve ever had a hankering to try something new, this is a great place to make a start, with plenty of dedicated operators offering beginner lessons in a range of water sports including paddle surfing, snorkelling and even sport fishing. Kayaking is a popular activity here, too, with the protected conditions perfect for a leisurely few hours on the water. What a place to discover a new passion! Sightseeing by Pedal or Foot Power Cycling and hiking are very popular around the resort – simply because it seems purpose made for this mode of sightseeing. As part of the famous Cami de Cavalls, the coastal trail will take you on a delightful journey to secret coves and beaches and introduce you to a range of flora and fauna, while inland trails will take you through cool pine forests and picturesque interior nature spots. Whether you choose to rent a bike and cycle the trails or don your boots and do it on foot, this is the very best way to really get to know the area at a relaxed pace. Explore Further Afield If you’re staying a week in your Cala Galdana villa and you have access to a car, you should definitely get out and about to visit either or both Ciutadella and Mahón. While you probably won’t exactly get sick of lazing around the beaches, sometimes it’s nice to go in search of some culture as well. Ciutadella (about 25 minutes away) has some lovely architecture lining its charming streets and it’s a wonderful place to soak up the storied heritage. Mahón, the capital, is only about half an hour away in the other direction, and is renowned for its Georgian architecture and the excellent museum. So, do you think all that could keep you entertained for a week? The problem is, once you’re settled into a fabulous Cala Galdana villa you may never want to set foot outside the door except to take a dip in the pool. If so, be our guest!
