From Cime de Caron The first route is the more popular and is actually more forgiving for the less experienced. From the top you head towards the Vallon du Lou. As you make your way down, look for the yellow sign that signals the start of your off-piste adventure. The diversity of slopes that lead down the valley is vast, making for an interesting and exciting journey to the stream, from where it gets a little flatter. Soon you reach the glassy lake where you can indulge in the magical views of Mont du Chat, a mountain shaped like cat ears that towers behind you. From Boismint Shorter and definitely tougher, this route is steeper and there are no flat sections, therefore no reprieve for tired legs; so be prepared! That said, the effort is definitely worth it for the exhilaration of the experience. Head down this one in the mid afternoon when the warm sun bathes the slopes and you’ll be in for an extra special treat. Pierre Lory The Col de Pierre Lory can be accessed via the steep slopes that lead down from the highest chair lift in the Three Valleys. This route is a lot of fun and not too taxing. The extensive snow cover and flatter sections make for a smooth and relaxed journey down. These are the main off-piste routes, but if you go with a guide you’re sure to find more in the fabulous resort of Val Thorens.
