Three Places Not to Miss on Fabulous Fuerteventura

Travel & Tourism
The Canary Islands are perfect for solo travellers on the hunt for unique and special experiences, with both relaxation and adventure at its very core. Fuerteventura, just 100km from the African coast, is a wonderfully rich destination, boasting scorching sunshine and an abundance of hidden gems. There are plenty of authentic and charming locations for spontaneous adventure-seekers to discover.

Three Must-See Places to Visit in Fuerteventura

Betancuria Village

Betancuria, with its narrow flower-cladded streets and animated spirit, is located in the heart of Fuerteventura. This quaint village is stuffed with history and culture, it is in fact home to the first monastery and cathedral in the entire archipelago, as well as the Santa María Church, the chapel of San Diego, the ruins of the Franciscan convent of San Buenaventura, and the Archaeological Museum.

Since its location is amidst the mountains and quite far from the coast, there are truly striking landscapes everywhere you look. It’s the perfect spot for nature lovers.

Betancuria village is a perfect pairing of both remarkably unique attractions and alluringly peaceful scenery, with copious places to explore and adore.

Playa de Sotavento

Sotavento, a 5km long beach located on the south-east coast, is a must for travellers chasing adventure. Divided into Playa Risco del Paso and Playa Barca, both spots are ideal for individuals who prefer catching waves over relaxing on the sand.

With the area providing windsurfing and kiteboarding opportunities, Sotavento is fun for both kiteboarding gurus and beginners. If timed right, travellers may be lucky enough to witness the annual world championships that take place on the beach. With an on-site car park, Playa de Sotavento is easy to get access, but with its endless entertainment and beach bar, it’s pretty difficult to leave!

Puertito de Los Molinos

Also known as El Puertito, Los Molinos is one of the area’s best-kept secrets. Located on the west coast, the remote village houses just 20 local residents so is often unnoticed by tourists. The quiet beach (vacant of both people and amenities) is perfect for escaping the hustle of Fuerteventura for a few hours of relaxation.

With a small car park located next to the beach and two restaurants for when lunchtime hunger hits, there are no excuses to miss the hidden charm of Los Molinos. However, explorers must plan their day to visit carefully, as the strong currents, impressive natural pool, and unique caves can only be accessed during very low tides.

How to Get There

It is recommended that you first fly into Fuerteventura Airport and then use pre-booked airport transfers. Fuerteventura offers all sorts to discover, so getting there without hassle is a must. Plus, arranging last-minute transport can be complicated and expensive, so the best guarantee of a safe and reliable journey is one of the available airport transfers Fuerteventura offers.

This holiday destination is laden with culture and history, making it a trip ripe with charm and excitement that should be on every thrill-seeker’s ‘To Visit’ list. Head to one of the exciting places listed in this article for an adventure you’ll never forget.
