"Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks. But of course, if you dig deeper, it's really how it works.” - Steve Jobs A couple of lines by one of the greatest minds of this century, and they say it all. It’s a digital universe out there. Cell phones have become smarter and how android, iOS and Windows phone users are always on the go… connected to each other 24/7, and that is enabled and consolidated by the applications that are available at our fingertips. These “apps” are the life of these phones, and by extension, an integral part of the users’ lives. Contrary to the belief of many, the design of an app is as essential in the app becoming a success as is its functionality. And not only the look and feel, the manner in which the app communicates with the audience for whom the app is intended, is also highly relevant. In fact, while an app is made, there are separate teams for the design and development of the app. When the basics of the idea are presented, first the design team looks at the audience – their age, average preferences and current trends are all accounted for. It’s highly unlikely that the idea for the app is unique, so the competition must be checked out. The atmosphere of the app store where the concerned application is to be published should also be examined since more the positive reviews that will be posted on the app store for an app, the more it will spread. A very clever way of eliminating competition is by studying the reviews of the competing apps and eliminating the cons that the users complain about, thus making it more user friendly. That is the quintessential part of app design. However brilliant the idea, an app won’t sell unless it is user friendly. People will stick to a less advanced app if the new, improved and more advanced one does not allow them to navigate through it easily, or if its primary function takes too much of the users’ time to get executed. The vibrancy, usage of colors and sounds is what makes an app attractive. By paying close attention to design while building a new app or enhancing an existing app, one can increase its appeal, create a more engaging user experience, and make it delightful to use. In the end, what really matters is how good the user will feel while using the said app. That determines whether the rat(read : app) will ‘run’ in the rat race or not. Thus, to avoid all faux pas, the design for the app should be very carefully analyzed and considered. A Beta version should also be made available for testing. It actually comes down to thinking critically and completely to what the users are looking to find in the app and that should shape the design. Thus aesthetics and functionality = requisites of a good app design. Cheers! For more information about Mobile App Design Services kindly visit www.logospecialist.net
