1. One in 3 women using the pill at time of conception
February 06, 2018

A file audit commissioned by Marie Stopes Australia has found that more than one in three women accessing an abortion reported using the pill at the time of conception. The audit comprised a random sample of women accessing medical and surgical terminations during Oct 2016 to April 2017 (N=1160) and found that “59 percent of women were using a form of contraception at the time of conception.” The audit, which investigates the methods and failure of contraception, found that more than 40 percent were not using contraception at the time of conception. Marie Stopes Australia’s contracept... (read more)

2. How does particle size affect product quality?
February 05, 2018

Food, pharmaceuticals, the construction industry and even the paint industry, these all are based and develop their products on a rather complex process of analysing the particle size of various compounds in the products themselves. These tend to have a higher quality if their particle size is appropriate. The particle size influences the products’ texture, abortion rates, fluidity and overall quality, thus it is important for all manufacturers in mainly all industries to invest in particle size analysis services. This will allow those manufacturing companies to increase client’s satisfaction ... (read more)

3. Ohio Governor Signs 20-Week Abortion Ban, Vetoes Heartbeat Bill
December 13, 2016

Republican Gov. John Kasich signed a bill Tuesday imposing a 20-week abortion ban while vetoing stricter provisions in a separate measure that would have barred the procedure at the first detectable fetal heartbeat. Kasich acted on both proposals the same day they landed on his desk.   The so-called heartbeat bill would have prohibited most abortions once a fetal heartbeat is detected, which can be as early as six weeks into pregnancy — or before many women know they are pregnant....... 4. Amid Trump Victory Tour, Democratic States Gear Up for Battle
December 07, 2016

As Donald Trump makes his thank-you tour of states that voted for him, other parts of the country are gearing up to do battle with his administration. Three of the most populous, urban and ethnically diverse states — California, New York and Illinois — voted heavily for Hillary Clinton and are at odds with the incoming administration on such issues as immigration, health care, climate change, abortion rights and gun control. In Massachusetts, a state Clinton won by more than 25...... (read more)

5. Malawi Faith Groups Protest Amended Abortion Bill
December 06, 2016

Members of various religious groups in Malawi held street protests Tuesday against a proposed law that would expand women’s ability to terminate a pregnancy. The country's existing law allows only pregnant mothers whose lives are in danger to obtain an abortion. More than 20,000 people including schoolchildren, medical personnel and members of a Rastafarian sect marched to the parliament in Lilongwe to protest the bill. Among the placards they carried were signs that read, "A...... (read more)

6. Pope Indefinitely Extends Special Permission on Abortion
November 21, 2016

Pope Francis is allowing all priests to absolve women of the "grave sin' of abortion, extending indefinitely special permission he had granted for the duration of the just-ended Holy Year of Mercy.   Francis wrote in the Apostolic Letter made public by the Vatican on Monday that "there is no sin that God's mercy cannot reach and wipe away when it finds a repentant heart seeking to be reconciled' with God.   But he also wrote: "I wish to...... 8. Fact-checking Clinton and Trump on Terrrorism, Immigration, Economy
October 19, 2016

Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump faced off Wednesday at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Nevada for their third and final debate before the November 8 presidential election. The two began the night debating their very different approaches to some of the country's stickiest issues: gun rights, abortion and immigration. It was a striking turnabout from how the previous two debates unfolded. The last time the two met, in St. Louis, the debate moderators began by asking about the...... (read more)

9. Polish Women Denounce Ruling Party Chief's Abortion Comment
October 13, 2016

Polish women who support abortion rights have called for new protests against the ruling conservative party's policy, angered by its leader's words that even badly deformed fetuses with no chance of survival should be born. Women's groups said on Facebook that they would stage a "Black Protest" on Thursday in front of Law and Justice party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski's house in Warsaw and then hold nationwide rallies on October 24. Earlier this month, women...... (read more)

10. Polish Parliament Rejects Proposed Abortion Ban Law
October 06, 2016

Lawmakers in Poland voted on Thursday to reject a plan that would effectively ban nearly all abortions in the country after mass protests prompted some to reverse their position. The decision came after a Polish parliamentary committee voted down the abortion ban bill on Wednesday and urged the majority rightwing parliament to follow suit when it voted on the bill Thursday. The full parliament voted 352-58 against the abortion plan. Poland already bans abortion except in cases of...... (read more)

11. After Mass protests, Poland Won't Back Total Abortion Ban
October 05, 2016

A member of Poland's conservative government said Wednesday that mass protests by women against a total abortion ban have been a lesson in “humility” for the country's leadership and that “there will not be a total abortion ban.” Jaroslaw Gowin, the minister of science and higher education, said the protests by women have “caused us to think and taught us humility.” The comments appear to indicate that Poland's conservative leadership will withhold support from the highly...... October 03, 2016

Polish women donned black, waved black flags and took to Poland's streets on Monday, boycotting their jobs and classes as part of a nationwide strike waged to protest a legislative proposal for a total ban on abortion.   Many men also joined women on the streets of Warsaw, Gdansk and elsewhere across the largely Catholic nation on what has been dubbed "Black Monday.' 14. US Judge Permanently Blocks Florida Law to End Abortion Funding
August 19, 2016

A U.S. federal judge on Thursday permanently blocked parts of a Florida law that aimed to cut off state funding for preventive health services at clinics that also provide abortions. U.S. District Judge Robert Hinkle had issued a preliminary order in June after state Planned Parenthood affiliates challenged provisions as unconstitutional. The June order had come just before the restrictions were to take effect. "The preliminary injunction is made permanent with this order,"...... (read more)

15. Has Modern Science Fallen to PC Quackery - Is Nothing Safe?
July 18, 2016

This story began about a generation ago when scientific hyper-fluff was introduced under the watchful eye of Uncle Charley Darwin who happened to see a slight difference in the beaks of Galapagos’ finches. This apparition was then mixed with a whole lot of secularist anti-God sentiment and voilà – we all came from monkeys. It takes no genius, no string of letters behind a name and certainly no serious thinking to see that in one hearty good old fashioned, one – two – three, the whole matter could be given the heave-ho. C’mon secularists – give it up. It is not the story of Adam and E... (read more)

16. AP Interview: Ginsburg Reflects on Big Cases, Scalia's Death
July 08, 2016

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg says the Supreme Court shut down tactics used by opponents of abortion and affirmative action in higher education in two major cases the justices decided at the end of their just-concluded term. Ginsburg said in an interview with The Associated Press in her court office late Thursday that she doesn't expect to see any more of those cases after the court upheld the use of race in college admissions in Texas and struck down Texas abortion-clinic regulations that the state said were needed to protect patients. "It seemed to me it was a sham to pretend... (read more)

17. US Supreme Court Rejects Abortion, Contraceptive Appeals
June 28, 2016

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed appeals from two states which sought to impose restrictions on abortion clinics that were struck down by lower courts.  The justices refused to hear appeals about laws in Mississippi and Wisconsin that would have required physicians who perform abortions at clinics to have admitting privileges at local hospitals.  The high court denied the appeals one day after it struck down a similar provision in Texas.  The denial allows Mississippi's only abortion clinic, located in the capitol city of Jackson, to remain open. Th... (read more)

18. Americans Clash on Abortion Issues
June 28, 2016

Supporters of abortion rights hailed the Supreme Court decision Monday to strike down tough regulations that make the procedure hard to get in Texas, the second most populous U.S. state. Abortion is legal in the United States, but some states impose regulations aimed at discouraging the practice. Zlatica Hoke reports.... (read more)

19. Texas Reacts Swiftly to Supreme Court Abortion Ruling
June 27, 2016

HOUSTON, TEXAS— Reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that struck down the restrictive Texas abortion law was swift here. "The decision erodes states' lawmaking authority to safeguard the health and safety of women, and subjects more innocent life to being lost," declared Texas Governor Greg Abbott. Attorney General Ken Paxton, who represented the state in the appeals process, said, "It is exceedingly unfortunate that the court has taken the ability to protect women's health out of the hands of Texas citizens and their duly-elected representatives." ... 20. US Supreme Court Set for Key Abortion Ruling
June 26, 2016

WASHINGTON— The U.S. Supreme Court is set Monday for perhaps its most important abortion decision in a quarter century, resolving a dispute that could change the constitutional rights for the procedure and affect thousands of women. The heart of the case centers on whether a law in the southwestern state of Texas helps protect the health of women getting abortions or unconstitutionally poses an "undue burden" to keep them from terminating their pregnancies. The Texas law, similar to those enacted in other conservative states as well, requires abortion doctors to have patient-ad... (read more)

21. US Supreme Court Set to Rule in Three Major Cases
June 12, 2016

The U.S. Supreme Court has just under three weeks left until it is scheduled to recess for the summer, but before that happens the court is expected to rule on high-profile cases regarding affirmative action, immigration and abortion. Decisions will be handed down in the most important abortion case in almost 25 years, an affirmative action lawsuit accusing a Texas university of discriminating against white applicants, and a challenge to President Barack Obama’s executive order that granted legal status and work permits to four million immigrants in the country illegally. The ou... (read more)

22. California Immigrants See No Good Choice for US President
June 07, 2016

LOS ANGELES— Many people in California say this primary was unlike anything they have experienced in the past. "With my family there's been a lot of confusion with deciding who to vote for, but there's also been a lot of frustration," said first-time voter Monica Burgos. VOA has been following the Burgos family since December. Because of their conservative views on issues such as abortion and gay marriage, family members registered as Republicans. They had picked former Republican candidate John Kasich, but their candidate dropped out; Donald Trump is the only Republ... (read more)

23. In Colombia, Abortion Is Legal but Denied to Many Women, Advocates Say
May 25, 2016

BOGOTA— When Paula went to a public hospital in Bogota for an abortion she was entitled to by law, a nurse showed her baby dolls and photos of newborn babies and asked her what she felt looking at them. "I was judged. Doctors and nurses were always trying to talk me out of it," she told the Thomson Reuters Foundation. "One doctor said I was committing murder if I went through with it." Paula's experience is common in Colombia, where abortion is legal on paper but in practice out of reach by women dissuaded or deterred by bureaucratic hurdles, dangerous delays a... (read more)

24. Oklahoma Governor Vetoes Abortion Bill
May 20, 2016

Oklahoma's governor on Friday vetoed a bill that would have effectively outlawed abortion in the state by making it a felony for doctors to perform the procedure. Republican Governor Mary Fallin said the bill would not withstand a legal challenge. “While I consistently have and continue to support a re-examination of the United States Supreme Court’s decision in Roe v. Wade, this legislation cannot accomplish that re-examination,” Fallin said in a statement.  Roe v. Wade is the U.S. Supreme Court's 1973 decision that legalized abortion in the United Stat... 25. The G.O.P.'s Position on Abortion Punishment Will Make Your Head Explode!
May 19, 2016

Sean Erenstoft issues his comments on the latest G.O.P. posture about punishing women for exercising their rights about family planning. Just this week, Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan said he hopes Republican voters trust Trump instead of himself to lead the party. Responding to a question asking if he thinks Trump is the new leader of the GOP, Ryan responded, “Good Lord, I hope it is, because the person who is getting the nomination is the person to lead our party.” However, Trump is on his fourth iteration on his view about abortion from having claimed the matter to be settled law, t...
