1. My newfound appreciation for one of the greatest comedians of all time
January 25, 2022

Roughly a month ago, I remember hearing some drama about Dave Chappelle, whom people often refer to as one of the greatest comedians of all time, and his latest Netflix special, The Closer. Apparently, the show triggered a particularly sensitive community. So my curiosity got the better of me and I decided to watch his special. Now up until that point, I never watched any of Dave Chappelle’s stand-up shows before, so I watched it with my mind as open as possible. But what did I think of it? Well, two things: 1. Good for him for not giving in to the critics and apologiz... (read more)

4. How to write your welcome email message
December 19, 2021

Your welcome email message is your number one chance to make a first impression on your subscriber. If you have a great welcome message, subscribers will read it, be impressed by the quality and continue to open your emails in the future. With a poor welcome message, they may very well never open your emails again. Of course a poorly written subject line doesn't help. Before we go over what makes a great welcome message, let's go over some all-too-common mistakes that people make in their welcome messages. => What Not to Put in Your Welcome Message First of all, never send a wel... 6. How Often should you send out an email broadcast
December 17, 2021

What is the best time to email your list? What's the optimal frequency? These are two key factors to running a well-read and responsive email list. Email at the wrong times and your emails either won't get opened or your sales letters won't convert. Email at the wrong frequency and you risk either burning your list out by emailing too much or not building a solid relationship by not emailing enough. => When to Email: Which Days of the week are the best to send an email For having your emails read, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays tend to work well for a professional audience.... 8. How to super sell using email
December 15, 2021

Selling by email is different than selling on a sales page. Sales letters have to work under the impression that they have just one shot to make a sale and have to hammer in all the benefits and go for an instant close. Email on the other hand has the benefit of a relationship and ongoing contact. Here are a few choice tips on how to use email to sell effectively. => Relationship First, Sales Second Aim to first build trust and reader loyalty. This is what will get your emails opened time after time. Once your emails are getting opened and you have your reader's trust, then you ... (read more)

9. How to craft spellbinding email subject lines
December 14, 2021

A great email subject line should jump off the page, seize hold of your reader's attention and compel them into opening the email. A poor title on the other hand will easily be skimmed over and lost. How do you write a subject line that grabs attention? Here are a few tips. => Use Action and Power Words The more vibrant and energized your words, the more people are going to be drawn to them. Take the first sentence of this article for example. If it had just said "A good title should catch attention," how much blander would it be? Phrases like "jump off the page," "grab a ... 12. What about a squeeze page?.
October 12, 2021

You can’t afford not to build a mailing list, when it comes to Internet Marketing. No matter how well you’re doing in your affiliate business, you can lose everything at any time. Ask the countless affiliates who had their site bumped off the search engines, who had their PayPal accounts frozen, who were bumped by their partner websites for reasons they still don’t understand. The horror stories would shock you, but the one thing that they all have in common is this: If you don’t have a mailing list, you don’t have anything. A list of subscribers – real people who know you and... (read more)

13. The one big thing that'll solve almost all your email marketing problems
October 07, 2021

It’s been a while since I lurked through marketing forums. Recently, I came across a post where a user asked for advice on increasing his open rates in his email marketing. I skimmed through the responses and some of them were valid, in my opinion, like verifying your domain. As far as my knowledge goes, that’s the only thing on the tech side of email marketing that you have control over. But I also thought some responses were a bit overly complicated. For example: Finding the best day and time to send them. Split testing five different subject lines. Or util... (read more)

14. Why I heavily support my ways of emailing
September 23, 2021

Today, I’m going to make a short list of why I prefer my ways of emailing as opposed to the conventional way, also known as, the corporate newsletter way. Let’s get started: 1. There’s no need to use any drag-and-drop editors,no need to deal with any coding, and no need to deal with images. Simply type and send. 2. The content can easily be repurposed. I can take almost any of my emails and turn them into social media posts, expand them into long form articles, retell them in podcasts, and even use them when writing books. Fun fact: A good portion of How to Become an E... (read more)

15. Who my book is not for
September 21, 2021

If you’ve been on my list for a while, then you’ve probably noticed that my emails aren’t like the typical company newsletters you see. They’re text only, heavy on storytelling, and they’re focused on building relationships with my subscribers. And while I do heavily support my way of writing emails, it’s not for everyone. Here’s what I mean. I’ve been signing up on email lists of companies that do a lot of email marketing, and the main thing I noticed is that a lot of them send shorter, to-the-point emails. And I suspect they go that route for a few reasons: 1. T... (read more)

16. How to be a more selfish marketer
August 18, 2021

I saw a Twitter screenshot that caught my attention because it had to do with email marketing. ---------- I can't think of a more self-centered marketing statement than this: "Send more emails. It will definitely make you more money and if people unsubscribe then that's their loss." And yet I read or hear some version of it at least once or twice a month. ---------- So is sending more emails a selfish thing to do? In my opinion, yes. In fact, marketing in and of itself is selfish. When you’re marketing, you’re essentially promoting yourself, you’re promo... (read more)

17. Man, is running fun
August 11, 2021

Last week, I decided to take my daily walks up a notch. It was too easy, and I wanted a challenge. So I started jogging. I started off with a light HIIT-like routine where I jog for 30 seconds, walk for 30 seconds, and repeat. And slowly, I increased it to 60 seconds. Then, I decided to test myself to see how long I can jog for without stopping. Turns out, quite a while. As long as I jog at a certain pace and remember to keep breathing, I’m good. At that point, running out of breath isn’t really the issue, it’s a matter of how long I can jog for until my leg muscles gi... (read more)

18. Reasons why email is dead
August 04, 2021

On more than one occasion, I talked about why email is not dead and why the “marketing experts” who claim that email is dead or is going to be dead by a certain year are wrong. But today, let’s have a little fun and do something different. Let’s step into the shoes of the marketing experts and brainstorm some reasons why they’d say email is dead. Now, keep in mind that these reasons I’m about to list may range from reasonable, to debatable, to outright ridiculous. So without further ado, some reasons why I think marketing experts online claim email is dead are: 1. Thes... (read more)

19. Showcasing people's friendships with unusual animals
July 28, 2021

There are a lot of videos on YouTube about friendships between people and animals. There’s a channel called The Dodo that constantly puts out those types of videos. It’s a good place to go to if you want to watch happy content. But there was one video I watched where it showcased people’s friendships with animals that you wouldn’t expect people to have friendships with. For example, In 2014, Mexico banned exotic animals from performing in circuses. That’s when a man named Adolfo started a wildlife sanctuary to save lions. One particular lion, named Kiara, grew fond of ... (read more)

20. How to achieve a master level in copywriting
July 26, 2021

I did some self-copywriting training over the weekend. I was listening to a video recording of a seminar speech by Gary Bencivenga, who is often referred to as America’s Best Copywriter. In one of his speech segments, he talked about how to improve your copywriting skills, or any skill for that matter. The best way to do that is by doing something every week to improve at least 1%. And as weeks, months, and years go by, that improvement will compound, and eventually, you’ll achieve a master level. When it comes to copywriting, Gary Bencivenga suggested following his “Ad a D... 21. A cold email campaign that failed successfully with this friendly prospect
July 09, 2021

Not too long ago, I did a cold email campaign to promote my copywriting services. And the block of text below was one of the replies I got from a friendly prospect. ---------- There is something deeply ironic about asking someone to leave a voicemail if they call so you know they're not a robocaller, yet being quite happy to cold call by email in the first place! I think your sales technique needs some considerable work. On the basis of the evidence you've provided so far, I would be extremely reluctant to hire you - even if I was in the market for some support in this area... (read more)

22. Why aggressive sales pitches are turn-offs
May 21, 2021

I came across a video from Dragon’s Den, the United Kingdom’s version of Shark Tank. In this particular clip, two entrepreneurs pitched a machine that produces water out of air, which sounds cool and very useful if you’re in, say, a desert or a droughted area. They explained how it works, gave a demonstration, and the success of their product so far. Everything went smoothly. That is, until the five venture capitalists started picking apart their business model. Now, there were a few red flags: 1. They openly stated that their business model was going to be pyrami... 23. The story of unapologetic apartment trespassers
May 18, 2021

I can’t believe these types of people exist. Let me explain. On a podcast episode, there were two people (Dave and Ed) who moved into a new apartment in Koreatown, Los Angeles. After they moved in, they threw a house party where anyone in the town was allowed to attend. But that wasn’t the only party, they threw a couple of other weekend house parties as well. Soon enough, they pretty much established themselves as the new friendly, welcoming neighbors of Koreatown. And while it sounds nice to have a good reputation in a new neighborhood, this particular one came with ... (read more)

24. How to "architect" good emails
April 09, 2021

I once watched a video about a person who talked about his experience studying architecture in his undergraduate program. After watching it, the main thing I learned was: “Form follows function.” It’s a quote that you’ll apparently hear quite commonly in the architectural space. It basically means the shape of the building should relate to its intended interior purpose. Or to look at it another way, when architects start designing their new building, it’s important that they think of the people first. Here’s what I mean. If you have a building that’s uniquely shaped, i... (read more)

25. Some lessons I learned from my journey to become a hobby-level music producer
April 08, 2021

One of my associates just finished revamping a platform she’s been building for the past two or three years. It was originally a platform for freelancers similar to Upwork and Fiverr, but that concept went in a completely different direction too. Ever since I was introduced to the platform, I’ve been regularly contributing blog posts, at least until the platform went under construction. But recently, it had its grand re-opening and I submitted my writing piece for the first time in over one year. This time, I wrote my piece on my music production journey, which included the...
