One example of the current artwork this city enjoys is the many sculptures found in various parts of the city. Puerto Vallarta offers an ideal setting to admire sculptures outdoors. You can find sculptures made of bronze, iron, stone or resin, adding another touch to the beautiful landscapes of the sea and breathtaking sunsets. The outdoor sculpture museum offers this ideal combination, and is more than worth a visit both for tourists and for art-loving residents. What might be called the “art corridor” begins in the south part of the boardwalk with the famous landmark known as “Los Arcos.” These very traditionally Mexican arches were recovered from an hacienda in Guadalajara. Another example of art rich in tradition includes the “Fountain of Friendship.” This is a sculpture which represents brotherhood, depicting 3 dolphins; according to a legend of the Chumash natives from the south of California, several people were rescued from a shipwreck by dolphins. Halfway up the boardwalk, you will find a group of stone sculptures in the form of chairs, decorated with shapes of sea animals. The sculptures are called “La Rotonda del Mar.” The sculptor, Alejandro Colunga, is from Guadalajara, and has held exhibitions of his work in various countries throughout the world. The cultural and artistic atmosphere of Puerto Vallarta shows both Mexican and international influences. Puerto Vallarta is a city that is that is constantly becoming richer in culture, and balances exhibitions of recognized artists with opportunities for new talent.
