Swine Flu Hits Rhode Island: Ways To Deal With It

Health
The swine flu is a type of influenza which has become increasingly widespread across the United States including the tiny state of Rhode Island. While the flu season doesn’t typically hit Rhode Island until December, this year has brought an early season. It is named after the pigs that were originally afflicted with the disease. It is a virus which spreads to humans by their being in contact with the germs which become airborne or remained on surfaces within the environment. A person cannot become ill with this disease by eating pork products. This strain is now considered a pandemic because it is so new that few people have developed any immunity toward it. A pandemic is defined as an illness which is widespread nationwide or globally.

Another name for the swine flu is H1N1. It seems to be more common in children under the age of five years old and the elderly. Vaccines to prevent this illness are strongly recommended. Obstetricians in Rhode Island have been administering the shot to pregnant women and schools have set up on site shot clinics, as well. Health authorities believe that the immunization will be quite effective in stopping the spread of this illness.

Symptoms of H1N1 include a cough, sore throat, fever, body aches, headache and diarrhea.

Ways to avoid catching the swine flu include: Drink plenty of liquids, as a well hydrated body has a higher functioning immune system. Wash your hands with soap and warm water often throughout each day. Get plenty of rest in order to boost immunity. Eat a healthy diet abundant in fresh fruits and vegetables in order to promote optimum immune capabilities. Don’t touch your eyes as this is a way that germs are easily spread. Stay away from people who are ill.

If you are sick, please follow these steps in order to get well quickly and not infect others.

Stay home for 24 hours after symptoms have disappeared. Cough into your inner elbow or sleeve in order to contain the germs. Drink plenty of liquids. Get an adequate amount of rest.

The more people that become vaccinated and take good care of them, the less swine flu will be able to progress. If the individuals who have contracted H1N1 stay away from the public, the disease will be much more likely to be contained. The swine flu that has appeared in Rhode Island, as well as other states across the country will begin to subside as the public takes these health conscious steps. If you have any questions, contact your physician’s office or the Department of Public Health in your community.

To stay away from swine flu, Rhode Island based agency uses proven processes and disinfectants in an attempt to keep your house virus-free. To know more, visit http://www.purocleanri.com
