Omaha poker is casino card game which is very much similar to the Texas hold’em poker. It is not sure when the game actually originated, however, the game was brought into the casino by Robert Turner. The game has a lot of variations such as Omaha high-low split, Omaha8 etc which are played all across the world. In North America, ‘Omaha’ refers to a lot of poker games and the original game is called ‘Omaha High’. In the European casinos, Omaha generally refers to the high variation of this game and is usually played as pot-limit. Comparatively, pot-limit is much more popular than Omaha 8. Whether you are playing the game in a real casino or in an online casino, there are certain important rule which should be kept in mind before playing any form of this game. Omaha high-low is a game in which the winning amount is distributed equally between two players i.e. the player with the highest hand and the player with the lowest hand. It is mandatory for each and every player to use 2 hole cards and 3 community cards to form a hand. For a player to have a low hand, it is important to have cards with the numbers 8 or lower. In a game of Omaha poker, a player with the highest hand can always be the winner; however, it is not necessary that the player with the lowest hand will always win. The game begins when each player is given 4 face down cards. Out of these 4 cards, you can use any two for making a high hand and any two for making a low hand. Aces can be played for both high as well as low hands. The flushes and the straights generally can not be used to disqualify a low hand. So, if a player has a hand with 5 and the lower cards, then he/she will have the best chance to win the pot both ways. Before the 4 face down card are given to each of the players, the player who sits at the left of the button bets half of the minimum bet. This player is also known as the ‘Small fold’. In Omaha poker, it is very difficult to run off the players. Always try to avoid raises at the early stage of the game since they can be risky. You may choose to raise at an early stage if you are sure that you will not lose.
