Digital cameras have made taking pictures much easier then ever before. For the photographically challenged digital images are much more forgiving then more conventional cameras that use film for the simple fact that bad or unwanted pictures can be deleted at no cost. With a little practice and using the following tips just about anyone can take great pictures with their digital camera. 1. Check the Image Background – Be aware of what’s happening in your picture background. Sometimes the difference between a good picture and a great picture is simply moving your subject or your shooting point a few feet to either side to avoid unwanted background issues. 2. Use Natural Light – While it’s not always possible to do so turning off your flash and using the available light can return good results. Camera flashes tend to be rather harsh when lighting people and tend to make human subjects look paler then they really are. If taking pictures indoors try to place your subject by a window or turn as many lights as possible to avoid using the flash. 3. Adjust Your Aim for Face Shots – For natural looking face shots avoid shooting your subject straight on. Shoot them a little from the side at a slight downward angle. 4. Focus on your subject – Get as close to your subject as possible. The more you can fill your frame with your subject the better your picture will be. 5. Avoid Framing Dead Center – By aiming just slightly off of dead center from your subject you can create a more interesting photo. This technique works well when shooting groups of people. These tips are a great way for the novice photographer to improve their picture taking skills. While you won’t become an award winning photographer experimenting with these ideas will bring much greater focus to your picture taking activities.
