Who wants to be ripped off? I don't, personally. Neither do thousands of customers who are being sold skin care products which are just not meeting proper safety standards. Time for serious skincare. Let me give you a few examples of the dangers that are lurking. A department of the Ministry of Health, the National Agency of Sanitary Environmental Control (ANCSEP) in Tunisia has just warned consumers about an eye pencil which is highly toxic. It contains quite a lot of lead and several carcinogens. Meanwhile in the USA, cosmetics are the least regulated of any products controlled by the Federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FEDCA). There is no procedure in place for testing products before they are put on the shelves! The FDA will only act when there is a risk to public health but this is really being wise after the event, or in this case after the damage has been done. Talking of damage. Guess how many of the country's cosmetic manufacturers are even registered? It is less than half, about 40%. Cosmetic injuries are not even reported or if they are, they are very few indeed, probably about a miserly 3%. In addition, the public is equally careless in that they rarely associate their own skin problems with the products they happen to be using and sloshing on their bodies and faces. Serious skincare has not yet reached the masses, partly due to a deliberate withholding of relevant information by some nutraceutical companies. Reliable info on your phone But good news is at hand in that there is now a new mobile phone application which can be installed on your mobile. I cannot give you its name but it does slot ingredients used in cosmetic products into different categories of red, orange or green. These colors correspond to whether the ingredients are safe or not. The whole database is based on 5,000 ingredients from the INCI. (The International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients). Serious skincare will soon be at your finger tips. Good news! Here is some more good news. Fortunately there are companies who are dedicated to quality and research and on the safety of ingredients in serious skincare, which is a great relief. For example, they will sign up to and adhere by the rules set out by the EU and the Campaign For Safer Cosmetics. They refuse to use ingredients which are known to be harmful to health and are dedicated to researching safer components.
