What does a hypoallergenic facial cleanser mean for you? For the cosmetic companies, this word hypoallergenic can mean what they want it to mean, rather like Alice in Wonderland! For me, it means that I want a facial cleanser which is NOT going to cause an allergic reaction, or at least, the chances of that happening are minimal. Basically they should be able to clean the skin and not strip it of all its essential oils and at the same time, they should not clog the pores. That means in practice that there will be no allergic reaction and no skin irritation and our skin will feel smooth and not greasy at all. As regards ingredients that mean there no toxins or chemicals such as parabens, preservatives, mineral oils or alcohol derived elements. Of course everybody is allergic to something but if we can eliminate the above, we are making a very good start. We can easily check the website of the company and also the label on the product if we shopping on the mall. This is the first step in finding the best facial cleansers. Bad ingredients to avoid. The list is long and dangerous. Here are the principal ones. Ethylparaben, methylparaben, phenylphenol, acrylamide, petrol derived elements, phthalates, toluene and formaldehyde. Some of these are possible allergens but they are also carcinogens and reproductive toxins as well. Quite a talented bunch of ingredients which are usually included in a so-called hypoallergenic facial cleanser because they are cheap! Insist on safe, natural ingredients. Any safe hypoallergenic facial cleanser will be free of harmful toxins, allergens and chemicals. But how do we know? The main criteria here is to look for a company which is a signatory for the Campaign for Safer Cosmetics and which clearly states that their ingredients are free of the above nasty customers. As regards a possibly perfect hypoallergenic facial cleanser, I would expect it to contain phytessence wakame, manuka honey and also kaolin.
