Late Night bumbling buffoonery drops Bush bashing bomb on Father's Day

Current Affairs,Christianity,Advice
This year, 2010, father’s day makes its one hundredth birthday in America. It is celebrated in over fifty five countries around the world. Television wasn’t commercialized until 1948. Leave it to TV to slam a 100 year old tradition with only a few careless and thoughtless words, before about 30 million people.

It is no secret that Hollywood and media is the right arm of the liberal apparatus. It is a rolling ball of fleshy indulgence and twisted morality that crushes everything it falls on like an Oklahoma twister. It scoffs at tradition, morality, Godliness and human dignity. It reduces everything to its lowest common denominator in personal behavior and our collective national life. Why should Father’s Day escape?

Letterman glibly apologized for the category then proceeded with the “top ten signs your father is a loser” on June 18, 2010. A deep moan could be heard mixed in with the uproarious laughter at the reading of number five. The answer was “Destroyed country’s economy and standing in the world, along with his vice president Dick Cheney.”

It may have been serendipitous that on the same night Jeb Bush was seen in a clip across the tube saying that “when people wake up in the morning and have a sniffle, they blame my brother.” The levity of Letterman and the sharp answer of Jeb Bush make for interesting jabber but together they serve to remind us that liberals still have the ability to block facts and ignore figures with a wholesale blindness that makes Helen Keller look like a 20/20.

Our bowing, apologizing President has distanced himself from old allies, cozies up with that impotent burgeoning body we call the UN and has generally shown himself nearly incompetent in a crisis. As for the economy, the trillions of dollars in debt America is now facing came to us courtesy of the Obama administration, a fact that can be known by anyone who isn’t getting all their news from the Daily Kos and all their laughs from Late Night’s Letterman; which after all, may be interchangeable.

Long ago I formed the hypothesis that everyone in the world is looking for a father. They don’t always recognize this fact but it is a driving force in civilization, whether recognized or not. If it is not already clear that I am not talking about an earthly biological dad then let me apologize but, not glibly.

In the New Testament alone the reference to mothers occurs under one hundred times while references to the Heavenly Father occur over four hundred times. Why does the Bible have exactly four times as much to say about fathers than mothers? Glad you asked.

Pouring all religions together in a melting pot is an element of the last day’s apostasy. It is what allows everyone to debate which religion is right or who is actually God’s chief representative. Rather than leaving that to speculation or allowing men to decide which prophet or spokesmen is the highest of them all, Christ cut the debate short with six little words. “I and my Father are one” (John 10:30)

With six simple words Christ has declared that the creator of the universe and the redeemer of mankind are one and the same. These words emphasize to a lost and troubled world that salvation cannot be found by seeking any one religion or all of them together. It is found by seeking our Father.

The theology of the incarnation may seem a bit hard for some but it is best seen in another simple but profound declaration made by the Apostle Paul. “To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them…” (2 Cor 5:19) With this verse in mind it is easier to understand the full meaning of one of the most well known passages in the entire Bible.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (Jn 3:16)

From these and hundreds of other verses what emerges is a picture of a loving Father who isn’t expecting any gifts this Father’s Day but rather has one for us, namely, the gift of eternal life. What can any man say to this? How about this: Happy Father’s Day!
