The Colorado River is running dry. And no, that’s not a country song title, it is a scary fact for all of us whether or not we directly get our water from the Colorado River or not. It’s a fact that once that water supply dries up our water supply will be tapped for other people to use as a resource. So if you don’t think this concerns you, you are dead wrong. So how can you make any difference on the water levels of a river that you may not even know how to find on a map? One way is to have low flow and touch less faucets installed in your home. Touch less faucets are like the ones you find in public restrooms. If your hands aren’t under the sensor beam the water shuts off. This would be great for families with kids who leave the water running while they brush their teeth. Gallon after gallon of water goes down the drain, your water bill goes up and our water supply runs down. A touch less faucet is a much more logical solution to the problem than simply trying to remind your kids to turn off the water- constantly. Low flow faucets can save the average family 1,700 gallons of water a year even without the touch less faucet. The majority of that water conserved -1,300 gallons to be precise is a reduction in hot water. This means a low flow faucet could not only save you water, and reduce your water bill but it could also save your electric bill by not heating 1,300 gallons of hot water a year. If you’re sold that there is no good reason to not make the switch the only thing left to do is find a qualified plumber who can install your new faucets for you. If you’re anything like me your last plumbing job resulted in a lot of water gushing throughout the house and a frantic call to the plumber while you used every single dry towel in the house to save the floors. So don’t try and be a hero, call a plumber. Sure it’s not a big job but it is a job that can have consequences if it isn’t done right. And there are no excuses to not find a plumber anymore either. Just go to any consumer based web site that post consumer reviews of the local businesses in your area like Angie’s List and find the plumbers who have been rated highly by other consumers. Read a few reviews to find one that knows his green plumbing techniques and then get the job done with confidence that you picked someone who has already been recommended and won’t come with any surprises, unlike your last do it yourself plumbing job that was full of surprises. In Dallas, plumbing experts can help save you thousands of gallons of water a year. Find one today at http://www.angieslist.com
