If you are considering putting your property in storage there are several factors to consider before you pick a storage unit. First you need to decide on a level of security that you want your storage unit to have. Some units are secured with cameras, live on site managers, security fences and access codes that change every month or you set yourself to enter the compound. Other units may only have security fencing up with access code entry and no other frills. Most units are accessible twenty four hours a day so you can get to your property anytime you need to day or night but some may have limited hours of access for security control. If you anticipate needing to gain access at odd hours make sure before you rent that you have the access you require. Another point to consider is the size of unit that you will need. The smallest size is generally a five by five foot unit. This is about the size of a walk in closet and will hold about twenty medium size boxes. This is a good place to put seasonal items, sporting equipment, and camping gear. Think of it as your closet away from home. The next size is a ten by five foot space that is giving you double the room for forty medium size boxes, a dining room set or the contents of a studio or one bedroom apartment. A ten by ten foot unit is about the size of a bedroom and you can store the contents of a two bedroom home in one unit. This is also a good size for appliances, patio furniture and more boxes. The next size is a ten by fifteen foot unit that can easily accommodate the contents of a small house. The next two sizes you can generally find from this point are the size of a one car and two car garage and would accommodate a large five to seven room home or even a car, boat, truck and other items. Most of these smaller units can seem too small to utilize much space but what you have to realize is that your allotted space goes up as well as sideways. You can easily get a dining room table in a smaller unit area and more if you put your items in at the ground level, pack tightly together and build up to the ceiling level. As long as you are aware of what is in your containers and you keep your heavy items on the ground and build up with your lighter items you can get a lot of property in a small area safely.
