The master bedroom is supposed to be a place of solace for you and your spouse, but too often, it becomes cluttered and outdated because we hardly have time to blink before we flop down on the bed and fall dead asleep after overwhelming day after overwhelming day. But for your own sanity, it's time to make some changes. It's time to turn your master bedroom back into the haven it once was. Let me give you some suggestions for how to approach a renovation. Start with the centerpiece of the room--your bed! Examine the whole of it. Start with the headboard and footboard. Are there scratches, dings, or other obvious points of damage? If there are, you should then assess whether or not they can be repaired with a sander and some paint. If not, then visit a favorite furniture store, boutique, or antique shop to find a replacement. A beautiful headboard can serve as a point of inspiration for the rest of your decor. I personally prefer the elegant look of a sleigh bed or the traditional feel created by a four-poster, but it's up to you and your spouse to make the call according to your tastes. Once you have secured a new bed frame, it's time to closely examine your mattress and box spring. Having a hard time sleeping in those hot Texas nights? Too many couples allow their worn-out mattress to remain in place because they forget how important a high-quality mattress is to a great night's sleep. They don't make their own sleep a priority among all the other things they have to think about. Head down to the Austin mattress store and get a new comfy mattress, after all you spend a third of your life in a bed. So if your box spring is sagging or torn or your mattress has grown uncomfortable, it's time to visit your local mattress store. You may want to do some browsing online to find out about selection and prices before you start out to save you some time. Next, replace your threadbare sheets. Upgrade to something more luxurious, like sateen. If you prefer, you can buy a few new sets of plain linen sheets and save the ultra high thread count sateen sheets for special occasions. The color and pattern is what you most want to focus on here, as it will also affect your overall design for your room. Or, you can choose neutral colors like white, grey, or cream to coordinate with virtually any changes you make. Don't be afraid to get fancy. Wooden hangers for the closet add a special piece of flare for you to see. You can spend extra on the little things by cutting corners on others. My spouse and I managed to put up cupboards and shelves that we purchased from a thrift store and restored. Remember, this space is supposed to be special for you and your spouse. So do what you need to in order to make it a haven.
