There are vastly more avenues for advertising a business now than ever before. With the internet and hundreds of cable television channels, in addition to newspaper, magazine, and radio advertising opportunities, marketing has become increasingly complex and broad-based. There is one form of traditional advertising that is just as effective now as it has been historically, unlike other avenues including newspaper, television, and radio that are decreased in effectiveness today. This is direct mail marketing. It is the only form of marketing that is guaranteed to put your advertising message directly into the hands of your target audience. Current technology that allows direct mail advertising to personalize the message makes it even more effective.

Direct mail marketing can be precisely targeted to an area or demographic that is the most likely to result in buying customers. An eye-catching design with a coupon or other promotion that offers value to the potential customer can be highly effective. Local businesses especially can benefit from direct mail marketing. Many people will patronize a new business simply for the discount or coupon offered, opening the door for repeat business in the future.

Direct mail marketing is one of the most cost-effective types of advertising. Small, targeted campaigns can be used to test the effectiveness of a message and return response with measureable results, something that can’t be done as precisely with most other forms of advertising. Once refined, the audience can be widened to maximize the advertising budget.
