For several years I’ve written op-eds, (opinion editorials) inspirational pieces and commentaries on just about every subject there is with an eye to revealing how the scriptures speak to each subject. I find that even those Americans who are not very religious often respond to the basic common sense of a matter. Sometimes I feel driven by all that is right or even God himself to address a subject while at other times it is simply a gross injustice or travesty that drives me to write. Since the inception of the “change we can believe in” doctrine of the Obama Presidency I find myself overwhelmed with material. I can barely find the time or energy to speak to all the material being cast up by the new storm of liberalism, corrupt politics and media bias that is breaking across this nation. At times I am forced to admit that even as I might not be considered “expert” in a particular subject, I have over forty years of study in Old and New Testament scripture that does speak expertly, eloquently and authoritatively to the subjects chosen. A smattering of common sense, fairness and love for our country is all the salting I need to appeal to the better judgment of the millions of Americans who still see this country as the most exceptional nation in the history of the world. One great injustice that is developing of late is the case of decorated medical officer Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, who only days ago was refused the right to full disclosure of Mr. Obama’s birth records by Army Col. Denise R. Lind. Up to now the debate over the President’s eligibility raged as a side issue. Those who asked for Obama’s documents were labeled kooks, conspiracy theorists, birthers and the fringe. They were cast aside as a laughing stock yet they remain undaunted and many new names have been added to the growing list of those who are very serious about resolving the entire matter once and for all. With the mid-term elections now looming on the horizon promising a shift in power to the Republican majority, renewed interest coupled with subpoena powers hold the prospect of resolving the two year old controversy. Unfortunately, up to now it was only a controversy and it seemed like something that could be placed on the back burner as solutions to other seemingly more pressing problems were explored. The controversy has now capitulated and could lead to some serious consequences for one good soldier. If the documents are not produced now, a decorated member of the armed services will be facing years of hard labor. Now it is incumbent on not only the military tribunal to allow disclosure but on the President himself to come to the aid of one of his own, under his command and loyal to the nation he has selflessly served for 17 years. Because Barack Obama has never served in the military it may be that he knows nothing of the warrior’s ethos or the code of warriors. All servicemen know that they are sworn to protect their fellow soldiers. While the President has never served he now holds the supreme rank of Commander in Chief, but even that may not be enough to invoke the most basic camaraderie with the Colonel. If just that ethos were working in Mr. Obama we would think he’d stand up for his subordinate and solve the matter regardless of the outcome. In New Orleans celebrating the fifth anniversary of hurricane Katrina the President was seen on TV saying, “I can’t spend all of my time with my birth certificate plastered on my forehead.” In fact no one is asking for it to be displayed on his forehead. What would be far nobler is to lay it down on the table at the tribunal of Lt. Col. Lakin so a good soldier can go back to saving lives and helping others. The Presidents own words go further in the great birther controversy than all else that has been said about it from the beginning. In his weekly address August 21, 2010 Mr. Obama said these words, “The only people who don’t want to disclose the truth are people with something to hide.” There are now 19 separate documents and papers being sought by several sources, none of which has ever been openly disclosed. This may be the definition of the perfect “non-sequitur” but common sense, a term Mr. Obama also used in the weekly address of August 21, 2010 would be insulted if we didn’t use the oft quoted but far more honest phrase, “practice what you preach.” People may be content to pass off the whole matter of the missing BC and other documents as nothing of importance but now the rubber has come down to the road and one good soldiers life and distinguished military career is hanging in the balance. Will the President step up to the plate? It is no great secret to anyone who has ever served in the military that it is a soldier’s duty to obey the lawful orders of his superiors. It is equally well known that it is also his duty to disobey any unlawful orders. In fact when officers try to hide behind the defense that they were only carrying out the orders of their superiors it can still result in their prosecution under the law. We have only to recall the Nuremberg trials if we have any doubt. It must never be forgotten that the Colonel has stated that he is perfectly willing to obey the orders as soon as it can be determined that President Obama can lawfully issue the orders. As extreme as that may sound, it must be noted that Mr. Obama and no other American can prove they are not just a fried egg without some reasonable documentation. Judges so far in every lawsuit filed have so far failed to allow disclosure based on what is known as “no standing.” If the Constitution which demands proof and soldiers whose lives hang in the balance have no standing then who in this world does? What about the President? He has standing, would he stand up and end the matter for the Colonel, for the doubters, and for the country? While this great burden and the entire oppressive weight of the United States Military tribunal is hanging on Lt. Col. Terrence Lakin, two questions loom large in a lot of people’s hearts and minds. The first question is; how can we help? You can Google the American Patriot Foundation and help by contributing to the defense fund started there. The other thing we can do is ask the President to consider these two statements, one from the scripture and the other from his own mouth. “Is not this the fast that I have chosen, to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?” (Isaiah 58:6) “The only people who don’t want to disclose the truth are people with something to hide.” (Barack Obama August 21, 2010, New Orleans, LA) The birther question has now come down to the “saga of two men.” One is uncomfortable with being asked for the truth, the other who is willing to be sent into years of uncomfortable hard labor to uncover the truth.
