I work for insurance company. It is not unusual for one of our agents to be absent, as they are in training for the day. Classes are taught at different locations and cover a variety of issues related to the insurance industry. Insurance is complicated and ever-changing with regards to the law and practice. The same holds true for Real Estate classes in NYC. People have to be trained, certified, and constantly updated in the field. It is the law, but more importantly, it makes sense. I wouldn't want to have a real estate agent represent me who wasn't up to date on real estate laws, practices, and procedures. The initial training to be a real estate agent is fairly intense with much to learn before one can sell or represent a client. I have friends who are teachers who are constantly staying up on their certification process to better their pay and increase their training and effectiveness as teachers. They often go to night classes at a local university or state college to learn improved methods of teaching and behavior modification. The field is ever changing and good teachers stay up-to-date. Nurses are another example of staying trained, updated and knowledgeable in their field. You wouldn't want a 60 year old nurse that hadn't been effectively trained for the past 40 years. Field of studies change, evolve, and advance. Good employees stay up with the data and knowledge in our ever changing world. Laws change, practices change, but classes keep people up-to-date and valuable.
