Now is one of the best times to start a business, whether you want to start one online or offline. The reason is that a recession is always a good time to start a business because it allows you to cash in on trends, as well as really zero in on what people are looking for. Many may not see recessions as a good thing because it's also a time when a lot of businesses go out of business. The reason this is good is because the marketplace is being cleared of the weak businesses. In other words, some of your competition is being eliminated. Businesses that wiil thrive in this type of economy are businesses that pay attention to what their customers want and give it to them. If you're looking for a revolutionary way to start a business, or something that's totally different that's out there, don't bother. There's really nothing "new under the sun." If you're looking to get into the business that's right for you and actually make money, then Joel Comm's "Kaching" may just be the ticket. You won't find anything revolutionary here, just five basic business models Comm has used in his own business to make money. These include Google Adsense content sites, memberships, products, affiliate marketing, and coaching programs. In fact, if you're interested in making money from Google Adsense, this is a good place to start. Comm spends a lot of time talking about Google Adsense because he's made a lot of money from it. (He doesn't tell you how he did it, but he does show you how to get his free ebook that explains Google Adsense in more detail.) The first part of the book is devoted to showing you how to get started with Google Adsense. (You don't even need any money to get started because he shows you how with Blogger blogs.) Then he covers each model in a separate chapter. (He tells you what to do, but he doesn't tell you how to do it. Each topic is a separate book in itself.) What I liked about this book is that he really boils the business models down to the basics. Unlike a lot of other books by business people, he makes it clear that there is work involved. He does try to show you easier ways of doing things, and he gives you a straightforward path to getting the work done. What I didn't like about the book is that it's so basic. When I read now as a business person, I read to increase my knowledge, as well as find those rare gems I want to share with my readers. I found myself going through the book saying, "I know this." Even though it really didn't help me learn anything new about business, it did help me streamline my future product offerings, which is a plus, because it will save me time in product creation. If you are thinking about starting a business, and you are new to online business, then I definitely recommend this book. It will help you discover the right business model for your business, as well as show you how to create multiple streams of income. If you've been in business for awhile, I would only recommend it if you are looking for ways to add new streams of income.
